thanks for the opinions so far. The car gets driven to the track and back (hopefully) but i don't need a road tyre i am happy to settle for the compromise that a track day type brings. The dz02g's sound like what i'm looking for, though the ssr's also appeal. I am assuming the ssr's are a big improvement over the assimetrico/directionale and not just the same thing but different?

SSR s are IMO the best all round tyre /wet/dry and wear ..........in the dry they are not as good as MSPC but for a bit of road and mainly track at £400 perf ull set there was nothing to cpmpare ...............i am abt to try Corsa s for the first time [have had MSPC] IN THE HOPE THAT NEW IN THE WET THEY ARE BETTER THAN MSPC ..................soon know !
Mo first Donni in July with PCGB for me ............knocking out my last Dunlops at Silverstone tomorrow then Spa end of month ..........

Mr tyre does not have prices but Camskill does. DZo2's approx £690 and not exact RS sizes
SSR's £500 not exact rs sizes and toyo's in RS sizes £506 . So DZ's nice but a bit too close to Corsa in price (relatively) me thinks.

Probably not right for a Spa trip but the Colways I'm running (cheers Jamie) have been a revelation. Grippy and progressive in the dry and not bad in the wet due to the deep central chanels. A chap in a similar 964 at Beford was running MPSC's and we were very evenly matched. Obviously I'm not suggesting the Colways can match the MPSC's but I have been very impressed.
Best of all a full set is only £134 from Tyres Direct.
Got to be worth a try at some stage.

FWIW , I'm going to Spa on a new set of Dunlop Motorsport Formula R pattern D01J's, the old set have lasted a few seasons but getting close to non road legal ... started life with a good 9mm or so of tread.
use 215x45x 17 on the original mags up front
use 265x40x17 on the original mags at rear
the grip is good especially when get warm , if its wet you just have to be a bit cautious till you see how much grip you have ...and they will aquaplane quite easily
the price for above full set tyres direct from dunlop motorsport used to be 570+VAT ....this time I'm getting them fitted by someone expensive so dunno what bill will be but still gotta be cheaper than MPSCs or Corsas
See Ya there !

The DZ02Gs cost me £585 inc VAT[
] and delivery direct from Dunlop Tyres which is good compared with the MPCS and Corsas. They come with a decent tread depth but it's too early for me to say anything about how well they last. Unfortunately, the longer they last, the harder they are and therefore the less they grip - and its the grip I'm interested in! The sizes I went for were:
Front 215/45R17
Rear 245/45R17
and these work fine on the original mag wheels. I'm surprised there's clearance for the 265/45 on the rears on original rims. Must be really sticky at the back though!
I'm planning to be at Donington on 22nd May if anyone wants to swap notes.

Bet you'll be checking the forecast then John[
I'm tempted to put my new DZ02G's on for Spa, but I'd want a pretty solid fine weather forecast to do so.
We are men in 964 RS's we can handle it[
] actually as i have no other wheels i'll have no choice. If it rains i'll sit it out. Besides it's much more fun watching than driving when it's wet[8D] less expensive too!
I have tracked in very wet weather on worn Do1J and they were so much better than I ever hoped for, new Dunlops should be much better at clearing water....Laurence, good to se you got round to ordering the Doz..after recent conversations,,,you won't regret it....those few secs should get you closer to that red Gt3 on the Indy [
