Would the Bosch Motronic ECU from a 1981-1984 944 fit my 1986 924S, and if so what effect would it have, if any, on the performance of the car?

Check the numbers. if you are in need of a untit let me know the one you require ( number stamped on it) as I have a couple opf different ones in my spare parts cupboard.

It is my belief that the 10 bhp reduction in power for the 924s was effected in the chip in the ecu, so it is likely that on a pre 1988 car you could see a 10bhp gain, but, like so many things in this world, I bet nothing is that easy, and that a 944 expert will disabuse me of this theory.

From Andrew[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Please thank Geoff for his offer. My unit is Bosch Motronic 0 261 200 077. I bought one from Germany on eBay the weekend before last and am still waiting for it to arrive. I'll get back to you if it doesn't do the job.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Regards

There may be running problems using an earlier ECU on your 924S

The S has a carbon canister where as the erly car does not.

You could try it, but first I would check the number of wires on the loom of both the cars and compare.

My numbers don't seem to match. They are both Bosch and numbered 0 227 100 010 taken from a 1981 924 automatic but are the same as my 1982 924 Lux and 0 227 100 038 reputedly taken from a 1982 924 Turbo II . I bought this one before noticing my 1982 Turbo II has a completely different Siemens unit. Stupid or what?
