Total closure? and third LED

My 968 has a Porsche alarm / imobiliser, but no total closure function.

Has anybody fitted an after market module that closes the windows / sunroof when you lock the car? I had this facility on my previous P&J, and it was very useful.

Also, can somebody confirm that the LED on the centre console is supposed to be there. It reacts as the manual says it should, but compared to the very trick door-pin LED's, it looks like an after thought, and the panel it's in has cracked like the hole was drilled by a monkey.

Hi Chris,

Ive just looked at mine which has two immobilisers. The LED on the right of the centre console I assume is the porsche standard fitted alarm, which is operated next to the steering column. I also have an LEd on the left which is for the other immobiliser located in the glove box.I think this one was an addition as the LED has been installed where you would usually add extra switches like the sunroof controls etc.

Sadly it doesn't close the windows or sunroof if you leave them open though.

I have to say I am seriously considering removing the extra immobiliser as it's takes so long to start the car. Mind you it's all extra security is't it[:)]

Chris,

My 944 came with a total closure system fitted by the previous owner. It's made by TOAD and the LED is on the left like yours, although door-pin LED's would have been nice! [:)] I'm sure I could dig out the details if you're interested.

Mine also has two systems, the original Porsche one, superceded by a Cobra aftermarket one. Closes doors, but nothing else.

If it was up to me, I'd rip both of them out right now. I HATE these damn things. They are the most unreliable systems on the whole car, they will deter absolutely NO ONE, they are a total waste of money, and they are only there because penny pinching insurers like to force US to spend OUR money pointlessly in the hope it will save some of THEIRS!

Ok, thanks guys (and girls) looks like the LED is supposed to be there after all.

I've also got an alarm / imobiliser socket next to the ignition switch. It doesn't appear to work. Is this the Porsche one you were talking about Carol...

Yup, that's the original Porsche one, which the aftermarket systems are supposed to improve on (fat chance!)

Oh...

What's the socket for then? My imobiliser disarms with the remote locking and then arms its self after 30 seconds.

The previous owner didn't hand over anything that looks like it might fit in there.

Early style alarm/immobilisers had a little doofer which you pushed into that slot. Basically a microchip sealed in plastic with some brass contact strips. The later systems do the same, but by radio link rather than physical contact.

Right, so can I get rid of it?

Can you get that piece of trim without the imobiliser socket in it?
