Anyone got the July issue yet?

Lovely feature on the virtues and values of the 64RS.

Car looks pretty good too especially as its one of those RHD imposters! [;)]

Your car looks great in the article Ollie !
I'm sure I remember Des promising there'd be no mistakes in this one though ........, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading something suggesting that they moved the ABS unit onto the rear seat bulkhead on the NGT, and I'm pretty sure it was only the Motronic box that was relocated there ????? (sorry, particularly anal of me ....)

Unfair, guys. Total 911 is, IMO, a lot better than the other rubbish we have to out up with. Maybe a mistake or 2, but I bet it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as the other rags.

Reminds me of my attempt to get an insurance quote from Norwich Union Direct (Indian Call Centre).

Them Me
Make of car? Porsche
Model? 911 Carrera 2 RS
Number of doors? 2
Petrol or diesel? Thanks for your help but I don't think you are the insurance company for me!

[:D]

I wish that some publisher would translate the Flat 6 French magazine. Still the best for me...

The Total 911 "Appreciating asset" is excellent with virtually no mistakes.I did not realise that the standard RS was referred to as a Sport in Germany. I have seen this recently in an article in 911 PW (I think) as well. I thought it was refferred to as Basic.
I see that the fuel tank in the photo is stated at 92 L but I am sure that RHD versions had the smaller tank and that the larger item was only fitted to the later models. Mine has one Chassis no 1975.Also chassis no can be found on the Left hand A pillar. I am surprised by the number of owners that I have met that did not realise this.
Fairly sure that the lightweight 1991 Carrera 4 was not badged RS.
Its about time Octane magazine or similar did a feature as really, the 964RS is still a bit of a secret!

Jeff

Yes picture does show a standard tank not 92l one. The chassis number is not visible with the larger tank fitted.

I notice in the picture on page 19 that the bonnet shows exactly the same slight miss alignement as mine. Half way up on the left (left in picture not left of car) the bonnet/wing gap is tight. At the bottom on the right the gap is too large. Is this a standard RS feature (I am sure that the detail build quality is poor on the RS) or have or cars had exactly the same accident!

I thought that the smaller tank was fitted to all RHD cars, and the larger tank to all LHD cars.

Therefore do all LHD cars have the vin number on the inside of the A pillar ?

I believe the ECU was moved onto the rear bulkhead on the Cup cars (--- from beneath the seat) to allow more room for the crotch strap of a harness.

Hi ChrisW,

the engine black box in the Cup car sits vertically behind the driver´s seat, that surely gives the harness the room it needs. Additional, if my memory is correct, these black boxes belonged to Porsche factory and were handed out before the race, like in a lottery. So, the position of the black box made it very easy to put them in and out and by the lottery method Porsche made sure all the teams had the same black boxes......

Otherwise all animals would have been equal, but some would have been more equal![:D] A lot more equal.

Hope, my memory is correct, I´m old.

Correct -mine has a number pencilled onto it.....

Agree on that Phil - definitely some of the best RS articles - especially the N/GT one.

Tony

I think your right on all points Jeff - if my memory is correct the lightweight Carrera 4 appeared before the RS.- hence the 16" mags.

Tony

The larger tank was an option but was I think then fitted as standard to late production run cars. The chassis number on the A pillar was for later production runs also not sure exactly when it was introduced, so not all cars have it only the last 3-400? .
