MELV THE MERKIN MAN; where have all the sticky topics gone? I used to love scrolling through 37 events posts before finding the latest posting, hidden down at the bottom of the page. Now there are just THREE stickies! Please put some more stuff at the top to cause a nice logjam again [;)][:D] Only then can the balance of the 964RS forum be restored, harmony returned to the anti-cupholding universe etc.

Yours badgeringly,
The Domster

Whilst in a restaurant in Brittany last week, I spotted a stuffed Badger on the serving counter..........(health dept alors!)

"que'est ce que le fait de le Monsieur Badger....Garcon?"

" Mort par Anglais Conduire dans une Porsche".........was the reply

Yes a very sticky end, although the taxidermist did a good job to hide the Bridgestone treads...........[&:]

not sure what a stick topic is but I'm intrigued by the anticupholding stance......surely this ingeneous device (admittedly originally designed for fat immobile american SUV jockeys) allows us more time in the car...which for me is the objective?

How does a cupholder allow more time in the car? Me no get it!

The anti-cupholder stance is quite logical. Anything that is non-related to the pursuit of performance is adding unnecessary weight, and should be removed. Not just for physical reasons, but emotional ones. Hence the GT3 has a twin cupholder weighing, ooh, three or four grammes, and this is removed in the GT3-RS.

The 964 didn't have cupholders, of course, but they sum up what is wrong with modern sports machinery. It's all a big pile of GT stodge these days, nothing raw in case the fat middle aged company directors don't buy them. Even Lambos and Fezzas are gin palaces, apart from things like the Stradale.

The cupholder is an icon of anti-performance. The badger is an icon of hedgerow attraction. And yes, Des and I probably are daft as brushes [:D]

I use my 2 cupholders to hold a bottle of water each, allowing one to top up one's fluid intake on the move. Very good for alertness, and therefore the ability to go faster.

OK, so the extra weight slows me down no end, (as the the air-con, another safety/alertness feature), but 320 bhp is enough (did I really say that ?!)

It is pure emotional silliness.

I am even getting air con in my Ultima GTR as apparently the driver will die of heat exhaustion on hot days otherwise. This does the driving no end of harm ;-)

Re bottled water, I have some nice pics of Evian at 45 degrees when cupholder testing in a 996TT at the 'ring!

With you on the cup holder thing Dom. I've nothing against cup holders in parked cars or ones that lock the cup in place while the vehicles on the move! Let people drink while driving - next thing they'll be advocating using your mobile phone while driving[;)]
