147 in an S2 cab, measured by a Road Angel (so more accurate than the speedo). Probably had a little more to come, but not much so 150 might be realistic. The cab may be faster than the coupe in terms of VMax because of the 2" lower roof height, or it may be slower because of the less slippery "notchback" shape the roof line gives it. I also saw 162 in my then standard Turbo coupe, measured by TomTom GPS. That's exactly as Porsche stated and I don't think it was going to go any faster.

Official figures seem to be between 149 and 154 although more often the former. Welcome back Fen. How is it in New Zealand?
Comments about speedo accuracy need to be factored in ... I've seen 145 on the speedo of my S2 coupe, and it felt like it had a lot left in hand. However, speedo always over-reads, so that may have only really been a whisker above 130. (BIG surprise was that I was racing a new 525d estate, which was also holding the speed easily, although he did back off a lot in the slight corners.) Have to add that it felt as solid as a rock at that speed. Roof was out, wheels felt very planted, steering was as communicative as ever and the engine didn't even feel like it was breathing that hard. Oli.
I agree to a point. My cab felt fine at 147, but then 147 isn't all that fast. My standard Turbo felt uncomfortable at 162 (but there was a brand new 540i that had hit his 155 limiter who had to be left behind [

Everything is relative, eh! 147 not being that fast ... for a London-based townie like me, breaking the shackles of 60 feels pretty brisk! You make interesting points about cab vs. coupe, both in terms of top speed (windscreen height being in the cab's favour, but the shape of the roof being against it) and stability at high speed. How did the cab handle in comparison with the tin-top? I have heard some people say that it is every bit as good, due to the double-skinned floor, and others say that it isn't a patch on the hard-top as it is simply too heavy and wobbly. (ETA: Actually, I've just read your comments on another thread about cabs and I think the question is answered there - thanks!) Interesting comments about the RS6. I'm surprised by the door seals comment - you'd have thought that in a car designed to do that sort of speed, they'd make sure that the whole car would take it. What's the rated top speed of an RS6? I guess you would class the double-ton as being genuinely fast? [] Oli.
] Oli.The cab has nowhere near as good handling as the coupe. I once missed my intended line on a bumpy corner by about 3 feet (admittedly with 18s on it) simply because it "walked" wide. It was a much nicer car with the 16s on it, but it still could shudder on a big bump. I say 147 isn't that fast because so many cars can go that fast, but then getting to even 157 is a big feat; anything over 150 seems to be pretty hard won. The first generation RS6 was supposedly restricted to 155. When they were new the magazines reckoned the limiter was "soft" and more like 170-175 was available. When remapped they are usually derestricted and I believe they are geared for 205 or thereabouts if they could hit the redline in 5th. I have heard of them doing 190s but never a claim of 200+, though there is speculation as to them maybe being able to get there. I would consider the double-ton as fast. Even my speed-freakiest mate has only seen 189 (in a 993TT).
Welcome back to the forum Fen. For those who may not already know, Steve Kevlin defended and won his PCGB racing champion title in 1990 in a S2 cab (he won the same title in a coupe in 1989). He must be a very good driver then if the Cab is not that good enough[

More to the point, would you want to do a decent top speed in a 20 year old car, unless you have done the maintenance yourself and have the piece of mind to know everything is working as it should. I have driven many 944's that I would not have been happy going fast in. Our cars need TLC.........or a big hammer if its a bent floor pan[
] Mike[:'(]Oh. Ummm, OK. Surely the same goes then for any car - duff maintenance at 2k miles when they rotate the wheels and tyres can lead to a loose wheel, and potential danger galore? I have driven a number of 944's, but I had complete faith in mine at that speed. No concerns at all. Oli.
Mine was little floaty over 130 on the tom-tom without the engine undertrays, with them fitted (I have the rear metal one too) it's stable up to at least 145 (ran out of room). I agree it's not the brightest idea to try & vmax a car but sometimes it's fun to just go for it [

Glad you're enjoying it over there, it's good to have no regrets over anything that you do I guess. Nah my car's at PPI in Newton Abbot, I forgot about T&T somehow which isn' t good considering they done a good job on my car when I took it in to them last time. Probably be another month or so until I get it back anyway at the moment though.
Just got back from germany this weekend with the car and i couldnt resist a few short blasts.... The speedo was reading around 145 but the tomtom was saying 141 at my last glance... the car got there nice and quick and felt solid and well in control... even though the cars tyres sounded like they were going to explode but i guess thats what you get for having removed the sound proofing and having 265 35 18s on the rear ! I still loved it though [][][].
