As usual fo a Saturday the TV is rubbish so i am watching the top gear episode where they are in Germany with 3 performance saloons, Merc 190. BMW E36 M3.Sapphire Cosworth.
Just realised thr Merc number plate is 10 digits out from my 220, C822 FEC, My car C832 FEC.
Feels a bit weird seeing it.

Yes thats a repeat - the news is all about the BBC making further cut backs in the near future and showing more repeats. A quick look a BBC tonight show Dads Army, Are you being Served and Allo Allo - Bloody hell - I did not think it could get worse than that[:D]

BBC are on about chopping local services also, i think they still have the rights for the world tiddly wink championships, SKY have bought out everything else !

Must be great to have a product that it is compulsory by law to buy no need to try and compete with the marketplace...

Back to the episode [:D]

I didn't see it the other night but have seen it a couple of times. I remember thinking that Merc is such an under rated classic I would like one if it weren't so damn ugly !

The idea of a more 'exclusive' or rare modern classic appeals to me strongly rather than ' going with the norm' , but it is just so ugly.

A mate had one i didn't like it personally, engine sounded very tappety (they all do) i know of a Black on Black one stored locally, there is a 200 series AMG knocking about these parts 4.5 V8 with full monty AMG stuff, looks absolutely great, sounds nice also !

I'm afraid every time I see that episode I hear the E36 m3 engine note and just think.. I need one as a track car! Probably the best value for money engine you can buy in any car at any price right now. They handle alright too (as long as you get an early 3.0 rather than the 3.2, which understeers a lot more on turn in).

Used to own an E36 M3 3.0 in Black, had to buy one to scratch an itch !
Nice car but fell out with it after it cost me a fortune sorting emission problems, a twenty five quid backhander to a friendly MOT man sorted it in the end, it was just over on fast tickover, idling was fine, chopped in for an Audi S4 Avant great car, Kamikaze brakes !!

Edited for accuracy[;)][:)]

Aye, correcto mundo Ben, especially when re mapped[:D] brakes were chocolate ! things starting to gear up for LM Classic..............interested ?

The 2.3 & 2.5 benz cosworth, i had both & didnt relly rate tem , A well built motor without a doubt, but only 200 bhp max , they werent a performance machine , very rattly as said . never the less a good experiment by benz..if you can get a ugly evo !! & de-dress it, thats the better option.

Evo's are really expensive, I really rate the 3.0 8V lump from the later cars, they drop straigt into a 190 and provide a great torque curve that I wouldn't be surprised makes it a faster car than either a 2.3 or 2.5 16V. Its a little down on peak hp at ~185 or so.

I had some pretty nice shifts but the E36 I was playing with didn't pass me till I backed of for a corner, due to having dodgy rear subframe mounts at the time. But hey you never know what the other guy was doing, he did laugh pretty hard when I revved it at the lights :D. On paper though I guess the E36 should spank it...
