Hi guys, for a little while now ive noticed an intermittent tap/knocking from the rocker cover area on my engine, if I rev the engine the knock increases with the revs then when it dies down the knock goes, I can even rev it again & get no knocking at all, sometimes its days or weeks even before it surfaces again, it knocks for a few seconds on idle then stops !!??, anyone know what this could possibly be & should I be worried, cheers, Jinxy

Sounds like a lifter may be bleeding oil on some occasion.

What oil grade are you running?

Haven't fitted a new rotor arm and dizzy cap recently have you? You wouldn't believe the racket one of those can kick up!!! It doesn't start as soon as they are fitted either... I haven't figured out the how and why, just found the cause in my case...

TTM im using W10/40 I believe, is a lifter going to be a major problem & what causes it ?
Tref I have fitted a rotor arm & cap a while ago & to be honest this noise has been intermittent for a while too ! Hmmm ????

OK... I was able to determine it because there was swarf from the dizzy cap post inside eth cap when I removed it - and an obvious chunk out of one of the posts. It might be worth a look.

Someone else has had that problem on here - a result of cheap pattern parts, or fake parts[]

944s will run with horrendous dizzy / arm combinations - I've seen one with one of the securing pins bent 20deg and the arm taking chunks out of the cap, still running - didn't start very well and was noisy on the top end, which is why we were looking.

A mechanic friend has said it sounds like Hydraulic lifter to him, where can I get one ? Can I buy just one ? how much for the lifter & what should I be paying to get it mended ? help please, cheers, jinxy
