I took my S2 in for an MOT this morning. This is the first time I've driven the car since I test drove it back in February at which point it had a very noisy gearbox, jumped out of gear and was generally feeling a little sorry for itself. I must say I'm totally blown away with the pulling power, sound and driving experience.I have replaced the gearbox, cv joints, brake lines, fuel lines, body seals, brake calipers (for ones with less plate lift), air / oil filters, plugs, oil, front pads, handbrake springs and lots of other little bits - and I've spent a fair bit of time getting my hands dirty doing all of this.
Anyway - it failed .... but only one point - N/S Headlamp not working on dipped beam - so a great result [
The garage told me they would sort it out for £15 so I said go ahead. They then called me again to say they'd replaced the bulb and it was still not working - did I want them to carry on? Having put quite a lot of time, money, sweat and tears into this I wasn't going to be beaten by a headlamp or hand a garage I've barely used an open chequebook - so I opted to pick the car up and sort the lamp out myself.
On picking the car up the chap said they'd replaced the bulb and that it might even be a fuse (don't know why they didn't check the fuses first if this was the case?). I paid the bill, which was slightly more than I expected. They'd charged me £15 for the headlamp bulb (is this expensive?) and a total of £48 for the MOT. I then got in the car and realised the odometer had clocked up a couple of miles. I looked at the failure sheet and saw that another garage (coincidentally one I'd used for the last MOT on the Galaxy and 306) - had actually performed the MOT!
I went back in and said to the chap that I wish he'd told me that they didn't actually perform the MOTs. Another guy that worked there threw me a bit of attitude and said that I never asked! So I wasn't best pleased. The signage at the garage doesn't say "MOTs Arranged" or anything to that affect so I may well check with VOSA.
So I've vowed never to step foot in the place again and take it direct to the MOT station for the retest - assuming I sort out the wiring to the headlamp!
It's a shame really as this place are a supposed to be experts in engine tuning, bosch diagnostics and even have a rolling road - but I doubt they'll ever see me again!
