Today was a good day

Well a productive day off work for me today. This morning I finished installing the handsfree kit to the new stereo, then fitted four of these bad boys;

All works great, I just need to find an ignition switched live as the stereo is currently on a permanent live, anyone know the nearest/easiest one to pick up behind the stereo slot?

Then admired my Turbo in the sunshine on the way back from town

...after which I went to Rob's so we could try and sort my overboost like problem that's been present since not long after buying the turbo. It would only happen on full throttle but power would be cut right back. I had already tested the DME and KLR as per Clark's and they checked out ok, yesterday I borrowed Rob's 3 bar FPR and that made no difference. Today we were going to try Robs AFM and after taking the air box out we noticed the pipe connected to the turbo pipe was a little passed it's best!

We also noticed one of the T's I had just fitted with the new vacuum lines was cracked so this was changed too.

I then went out and gave her a damn good spanking! OMFG, she works perfectly now (early days but it was spot on!) Soooo quick, I'm gobsmacked and well chuffed. Should turn out to be a relatively cheap fix once I get a permanent hose sorted.

Your very welcome Andy - anytime mate. Now don't be thinking about nipping back tonight to nick my exhaust system out of my garage that has the Tial DPW fitted to it. I have lent you some of my wastegate plumbing but don't think it is the start of a migration!! You can get your own mods [;)] In all seriousness glad you are happier with the car now. I also think that the previous owner may have Known about this problem and it could be why you got her for such a reasonabl price. He just didn't know how to fix it. For some reason on Andy's 87 car the line from the boost tube to the rigid control line pipes for cycling valve and AOS is of braided construction. My 88 car has an unbraided much harder rubber construction. I am imagining for a good reason such as this!!! If anyone has this section of piping going spare then it would be gratefully received as I have checked on PET and it only lists the complete unit with rigid control pipes, so probably will cost a King's ransom!! Might be just as well to see if I can get one made at PIRTEK. Will probably be able to blag work discount as well. PS if anyone has an oil pressure relief valve for an 86 block then that would also receive a good home [;)]

...and mine's an 86 btw, but cheers for the heads up - didn't think to ask if anyone has one kicking around. I've emailed Glenn at OPC to see if he can supply just this pipe - and for sensible money lol
 
About your question for stereo power - the following is copied from the 924/944/968 Stereo FAQ by Walter Specter. I believe this held true for my '91 S2. Hopefully you can find the original connector behind your stereo somewhere and tap in - otherwise the wires should still be there - and here is what you are looking for:

Power connectors

The wiring diagram in the Haynes 944 manual is nearly useless. A better idea is to go to your dealer or a shop that has the factory service manuals and photocopy the pages for your exact car. Public libraries often carry the Mitchell's auto repair manuals. These are also a good source of accurate schematics.

Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com) can provide adapter harnesses to avoid the need to cut up your wiring.

The six-pin connector commonly used in mid-80s has two large pins and four smaller ones:

Pin 1) Brown - Ground (large pin)
Pin 2) Red - 12v switched power input (large pin)
Pin 3) 12v illumination power input (from pin 4)
Pin 4) 12v radio-switched output (to pin 3)
Pin 5) 12v radio-switched output (to power antenna)
Pin 6) Permanent 12v input (to maintain memory)
A second set of power connectors are provided for the optional equalizer/amplifier:

Brown - Ground
Red/white - Permanent 12v power
Red/black - 12v when radio is switched on
