Hi all, newbie here...
Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I am shortly looking to purchase my first porsche, I have wanted one for years, but have been mainly driving Italian cars (Alfa GT, Brera, Spider, 147 GTA, Fiat Coupe Std (310bhp), Fiat Coupe Turbo std, although am currently in a Focus ST. But its time to move on again and the top of my list is a CaymanS with just below that a BoxsterS, need to see which one my wife prefers before I can make my mind up!!
My question is how realible is the Tiptronic gearbox, my main drive is my commute, which is quite stop start traffic, so the idea of the TipT appeals to me, but I need a reliable car, part of the problem is coming from Alfas which have the notoriously UN-reliable selespeed box, of which 2 of my cars both broke, so thats causing me a concern. So is the TipT reliable?
Also, what are the changes like in them, again I have been in cars where you feel the awful lurch as the box changes up or down, is the Porsche smoother on changes?
I am not too concerned about performance as I won't be tracking / racing the car, and on paper the figures look very similar so I am sure that will be plenty quick enough for real road driving, that said is there a perfromance drop off in the TipT?
I am looking to get some drives booked, as I have some holiday coming on soon, but just wondered if anyone could give me any initial experiences and opinions!
Thanks all, and looking forward to joining the ranks of Porsche ownership.
