Patrick have you seen those suspension side mounts, like these?

...could be just the ticket if your suffering back problems.
Not sure I'm convinced on the damper mountings. The main advantage of a bare shell seat (weight aside) is being able to feel what the car is doing around you. If you are going to add dampers you might as well use a conventional shell seat with padding, which definitely are comfortable, and available in FIA spec. from all of the renown seat manufacturers.
Either way (seats are like crash helmets) you can't buy them over the interweb you do need to see how they fit you.

Still though I have a side mounted Cobra Suzuka in my S2 bolted through the floor. Drove the thing for well over 6 hours for our last Silverstone evening, Yeovil-Silverstone-couple of sessions-back to Yeovil. Car on same spring rates now as front running club championship cars yet I get out and feel fine apart from my buzzing head caused by the noise of the thing. Correct posture, seating position and fit is a big part of the reason.
I have some Kirkey ally seats in a car, basic folded ally, simple slip on cover with minimal padding, and extremely comfy.
BUt I tried three sizes of Kirkey before going for the one i have! One was hideously tight round the ribs and i needed helpt to get out of it in the showroom, (jaws of life!!)
