Thinking of ordering a Cayman S..

Absolutely Philip! You should definintely check-out PDK - I've no doubt you'll find it more involving than the VAG DSG 'box you've experienced.

If my Cayman was a daily drive I'm sure that it would be my choice, but since it's toy - for use on road and track - I just prefer the mechanical connection I get from clutch and gearbox operation. I've driven a number of PDK-equipped Porsches and enjoyed the experience - on track in particular - but was rather glad to get back in my 'old tech' manual car. I've been driving for nearly 55-years and even though I embrace modern technology enthusiastically, old habits die hard.!

I will Jeff. I am now curious more than anything else!

I envy you having the Cayman as a fun/weekend car. For me it will be a daily, so I have a lot to consider.

Not least of which is the relative lack of boot space (say compared to a TT coupe with the rear seats folded flat) but I will just have to borrow my partner's car when I want to sling a golf bag and trolley in the back. However, I'm sure she will be more than happy to swap for the day! Err, maybe I've just spotted the flaw in my plan...

Manual v Auto discussions on any car forum always remind of a comment made by my other half who was an excellent secretary and won an award as one of the top 3 shorthand Pitman typists in the UK back in the day anyway.....

When these new word processor things started appearing she swore that you could not compare it to the feel of a traditional manual mechanical typewriter.......dont see many of those around these day except in museum or at car boot sales......just saying

and even I am a 55 year old recent convert to Auto now

Give it a few more years Dave and both manual and auto ’boxes will be confined to museums when we’re all driving EV’s..!
