thinking of doing the unthinkable :(

well i've had her coming on three years and have loved every minute of it. purchased from Elliot Newman on here after he spent a lot of years of love and attention on her. but after recently getting my motorbike test done and getting my kicks from the two wheel'd variety i'm struggling to justify two toys and will be off to Cyprus with work for a long time next year and with my bike in the garage id hate to think of BNZ sat on the drive not moving. so as i'm sure you've figured out already i'm thinking of selling in the new year. thing is i haven't a clue what i should be putting her on for in the current climate. has 129k, belts done last year, as was clutch. never had any issues with her but i know 944's are going for peanuts nowadays. should i just keep her and wrap her up for a few years?
any advice?
james

Looks far too nice to just get rid - I've met many people who have commented on my 944 at petrol stations etc and said "I used to have one of those - wish I'd kept it". If you don't urgently need the cash I'd wrap her up. Getting more difficult to find a good one and you already know and trust the current owner.

Id take it to Cyprus. Ive driven there and I enjoyed it, even in the North. In fact, especially in the North. Kyrenia to Famagusta, through the mountains and then across the almost deserted plain in a 944 would have been brilliant!

I know that my advice is always 'keep it', but Ive sold a number of desirable frontrunners (CS, M758 etc) and Ive ALWAYS regretted it.

yeah you might be right. at Akrotiri so theres no point really taking it with me as wont have much time off anyway. might just be an excuse to spend the money i save being out there on her when i get back

Wrap it up but have it started and run a few minutes every week or two just to keep bearings and seals lubed.

Give it back to me for a loan and i will love it again for a year!!!!

I could line it up with my turbo and 993 and try to justify all three??

There are some good roads in cyprus and would be a fun road trip, might be worth more out there as well.
Don't you RAF boys all finish work by 14.00 in Cyprus? [:)] (I have been going out to Akrotiri for the last 10 years or so and to be fair it doesn't seem as cushy as it once was)

I used to be at Akrotiri If you are out there with the mob the duty free cars are very alluring but 90% japanese. When I went out there I wish I took my Golf GTI with me, it took me six months to sell it here but the young lad's over there love german cars and I could have sold it for £3000 more than I did here.

Enjoy the sunshine tour, I did my 3 years on VAHS, you will have fun driving up Mount Olympus [8D]

Took me a while to work that one out but I got there in the end, nice one Oli.

I wonder if anyone else is still confused????[&:]

right the decisions been made for me. as something big endy has gone last night, garage has had a look and thinks crank shaft bearing. i just dont have the time to sort it as said before i am off away with work for a substantial time. so am going to put her up for sale. i dont have to sell, am not in the need for the money and if she doenst go thats fine, ill just dry store her and sort it when i get back i just dont want to do that as leaving it that long without running it will no doubt lead to more problems when i return. so here we go.

shes an '88 944 lux with the 2.5l (even though it has the ventiller rubbing strips down the side) shes extremely clean and not seen many that are as tidy. in ocean blue which again ive never seen on another 944. just coming up to 130k. and im looking for £2100 no offers for her, she was going up for £2600 before this problem as she is immaculate with a lot of history having been stripped and rebuilt by Elliot Newman on here and i purchased about 3 years ago. im gutted im selling her as shes been the best car ive ever owned. up to this point ive never had a problem with it apart from the clutch going which was the original clutch from new. shes been very cherished and looked after and still draws lots of attention and admiration wherever she goes.

Bad points:

few bubbles of rust along drivers side sill and some in the arches nothing bigger than 5p pence. have taken pictures to try and show. passenger side clear.
small tear in driver seat bolster where they usually go.
clock has just gone this week, costs £20 for a replacement from this forum.
little dimple on right side of bonnet where lifters went while i was working in the bay and hit a tool. barely noticeable though
Good points:

has been regularly serviced, last done 700 miles ago, am an engineer in the RAF on the Red Arrows and love tinkering with old cars and bikes.
porsche cup mirrors and later bridge spoiler
has rare fitment OZ futura alloy splits and also comes with d90's that i was going to use as winter wheels
Recently (2 years ago) had the clutch replaced
has clear indicator lenses front and back supplied by Richard Marsden from the forum which i think look brilliant
has a 944 turbo strut brace fitted
lowered 15mm at the front with hard to find nowadays techart coils.
nice all black leather interior.
porsche 'script' door handles
removable roof bag still in the back
and finally the brilliant number plate come with it BNZ7 944

have tried to be as honest as i can. if anymore pictures are needed give me a shout.

would consider a px with a 924 gt rep or a vw caddy

thanks
james

right think im off for a little cry :'(

I want your mirrors ! seriously its a shame but there are plenty of toys to tempt you in Cyprus and some great roads up Troodos too (take your bike with you). Akrotiri used to have a charity 1/4 mile sprint day on the Taxi way and even invited various locals with some insane bikes, twas all good fun and when I was there the Staish had a Morgan that wasnt slow.

Enjoy your sunshine tour and you look back on the fond memories of your motor [;)]

thanks mate, yeah i love the cup mirrors think with the bridge spoiler they just update the look of it but dont look out of place.
am actually toying with the idea of bunging the monster in an iso and taking it cyprus. just raf movers are like baggage handlers and cant see there being much left of it when it gets there!

A mate had his boat sent out and it was ok, in fact it was better than the service I had to use to ship my FTO back form there (bloody italian boat crew nicked bits off the car!) I'd say take it with you then, there is some good little back street garages with cheaper labour rates than here[8D]

Hi,

Very nice car and a shame you are selling.

Just curious - how much does it cost to get the Red Arrows to do a fly past for a picture [;)][;)]

And also what is the exchange rate from pounds to peanuts [:D][:D]
