Thinking of a change of car, anyone done this same change please?

Plug that 996 into WBAC and no doubt it is very low. Its like houses buyers want to sell high and buy low. Ah well keeping it is not so bad. If you had a 996 you would be thinking of getting a 987 so consider you are there already - man maths. I would like a change really but Im going to sit it out with the 987. For me its like the dog chase, once I catch one the cycle begins again.

What I do and it works for me is take the car off the road for 6 months until March then the new car enthusiasm comes back for a few months. Might be worth a go ? costs nothing.
 
I don't have the reg of the 996 I went to look at, but have done the WBAC exercise for a 996/2002/60K miles FSH imaginary car and the value came back as £9980 !!!!

So, how does that work? Cars of that spec selling (asking price) is 10K more.
 
For our sort of cars WBAC is only of use if your willing to take a rock bottom price and want rid of quickly. they are always well below PX prices unless your trading in a car they can get rid of quickly or make a big profit at BCA Auctions.

So I wouldn't be offended it's just the way they work, for cars like ours you've got to be willing to put the effort it to sell privately or to accept a lower price in p/x against something else.

At the end of the day I have same car as you and brought it for £20k 18 months ago, it'll probably be worth £18.5k on a independent forecourt but they want to make their money, so they may offer £17k as P/x some less and some more depending on how much they want the sale and are making on the car they are selling you.

I tend to look at the cost of change rather than how much I might be losing on a car as I have over years probably lost a lot of money on cars, but they are my hobby, so I go based on whether I am happy with the monthly figures.
 
Yes, I think your outlook on it all is about right.
WBAC I think is best for usual main-stream cars, anything special fall outside their remit and into grey waters.

Still, looks like it is all resolved.
Wife says we keep the Boxster.
Newer, less miles, on our drive and does the Euro-Tour job really well (so true) and looks well.
Not ropy, duff or iffy, a good strong car esp now it does not smoke.
Will need some fresh front brakes in the spring, but that is a £300 DIY job, not hard and I would take it to a good indie (I have one in mind) to check/adjust the geo on the chassis to factory spec.

There is a magic hill climb going on in May in Austria, it was featured a few months ago in the Porsche Post, and that is certainly on the radar.
SPA in September would be good, been a few years since we last went, and a sunny week in northern France too!

987.2 is insured for 10K miles/year so that will need looking at.

I had to search the digital holiday snaps to find that pic, and it bought a lot of memories back of a fab holiday in the car to Switzerland and France.
Tend to forget where the Boxster has taken us in just 3 short years.

We had a 2009 BMW Z4 for a short time before the 987.2 and changed the car because the ride was simply awful. The only car I have ever bought unseen.
Very low miles, 10 cow's worth of off-white leather and jet black.
Heavy car for 201 bhp
Best feature was heated seats for the wife and light steering for me...

Yes, going to stick with the 987.2 and add more memories, and maybe a hard top (!)

Bloody cars.
 
This is an interesting thread as I'm in a similar dilemma at the moment albeit with a 987.1 3.4 Boxster S ('07). I love it but keep thinking about swapping it for something else. Really I want a 997 Targa 4S, but you're looking at a 20-30k uplift from the Boxster for maybe 0.3s faster to 60 and 2 useless seats, plus I can't afford that :). If I could do it for 5-10k I would. I looked at a 987.2 Cayman R with a PDK and I really wasn't impressed but it seems like the next step up if you like.

I stump up for the Porsche warranty as well so come June I'm due a service and possibly warranty renewal for the last 2 years that I can. I imagine that's going to be 3-5k if I need tyres/brakes or anything like that. Wonder if this is better spent toward something else, or do I invest in the Boxster..? Any other suggestions to something fruitier than the Boxster but not such a massive jump in cost?
