This month's November 2010 issue of 911 & Porsche World brought together their 9x regular journalist contributors and asked them to rate their all-time Ultimate Top 10 Porsches. You'll have to buy a copy to see all the results in detail as I can't be arsed to type it all here.

Points were awarded from 10 down to 1 for all the Porsches in each of the Top 10s and the 964RS did well due to consistent top 5 placings - and of course for being the ultimate air-cooled Porsche: [:D]

THE 911 & PORSCHE WORLD ULTIMATE TOP 10
1: 997 Turbo
2: 964RS
3: 2.7RS
4: 996 GT3
5: 911 2.4S
6=: 3.2 Carrera Club Sport/ 3.0 RSR
8: Cayenne Turbo
9: Panamera Turbo
10: 356 Cabriolet

This is where the 964 RS came in each of the contributor's top 10s:

Steve Bennett: 5th
Chris Horton: 5th
Keith Seume: 4th
Adam Towler: 5th
David Sutherland: 5th
Anthony Fraser: 9th
Brett Fraser: 2nd
John Glynn: 1st
Johnny Tipler: 2nd

The way they arranged it was each of the 9x journos had to bring their ultimate car along. The article says, "Surprisingly there were no duplications." A 2.7RS was already there to prevent all the journalists bringing one.

Nobody brought a 993RS to the party. [:(]

On the basis the 997TT was seen as the ultimate Porsche, there was clearly a technology bias to the proceedings...certainly wouldn't be my choice.

With Cayenne and Panamera in the top ten, it is clearly a world of Porsche I would have no interest in....I for one will not be subscribing. [:)]

Just to add.......

On the basis that the journos had to bring their (so called) favourite Porsche along....is it Pure coincidence that they happen to favour the latest cars? They wouldn't be sucking up to Porsche in print by any chance would they, just so they can assure their place on the list for the next special edition launch luncheon at the Silverstone complex???

Only Horton got the order right.

For me, Count Rossi's road going 917 would be the ultimate porsche - they did not test that either.

I should add for those too cheap to go and buy a copy [;)] that it also says:

"Of course, we're talking about a bunch of motoring journos here, so don't expect for one moment that their choices will in any way match conventional wisdom...

...So here are nine writers, with one Ultimate Porsche each plus a 2.7RS as a benchmark. Let the arguments, justification and the plain 'I'm right and you're wrong' begin."

At least John Glynn brought along the 964RS.....that he is trying to sell for a mate[;)][;)][;)]

Otherwise we might have got his SC in second place!!![:D]

Not really The Ultimate Porsche Showdown....more like The Ultimate Porsche Showdown From Whats On Our Drive's Today

PS Sorry John[:D]

I think it was EVO Magazine that did the real group test a few years back including all the big boys even the 993GT2 M003 (Why did you sell it Vic?) .... the 64RS finished right up the list again .... [:)]

Explains everything, none of them could afford the decent ones so their choice was probaly based on the best car they could get there hands on!!

That was a very good group test - although the objective was (IIRC) to find the best 911 derivitive - not the ultimate. Virtually every contender was tested.

Can't remember the exact order but think the top four were 2.7RS, 993RS, 911 Club Sport and 964RS.

However, that test did pre-date the 997GT3s.

Dont mean to seem ungracious 'cos i did receive a tuna and cucumber bap for lunch but frankly the point of the day was lost on me . I was invited as 2.4 s was a key piece in the 911 developement, without which there wud nt have followed the rs , rsr etc etc ........................all good guys and mostly friendly ......the 3 0 rsr was one of the best i ve seen in latter years .........................other than that, the sunshine was nice and indeed how in an aircooled parde the 993 was omitted i certainly cant explain

Mclaren and slr being 'set up' around Bruntingthorpe at the same time was very interesting however.....................anyone heard an SLR on full chat ?????????AMAZING!

btw IT WAS THE TURBO THAT HAD NO JUICE MEL.........

You only have to see from the list of the journos, the article has little credibility. What do they know about proper porsches, they drive them for 5 mins or even a whole day.
Sadly even 911 world has gone down hill,i have every copy from number 1[:(]
Des if this turns you on!!!! so be it,enjoy it.[;)]

Haha Paul -wondered when you'd pop your head up!!

See you tonite?? Bring yer wellies......[:)]
