The Silverstone Classic

I am curious as to how many fellow 944 owners will be going along in 2013. This will inform my own decision.

I will shortly be buying my tickets and I am in the fortunate position of having options regarding which club to go with. I have mentioned (but not committed to) going with another club, however, a large number of friendly faces from here might sway me back towards PCGB who I have parked with for the last two Classics.

Obviously PCGB will be making a big fuss of the 911 this year and that is of some concern as I wouldn't like to be parked in a muddy puddle behind the diesel generator to make way for the serried ranks of 911s all neatly laid out.

Probably be there Glenn, we will have to have a forum meet and possibly park together ?

I'm back off holiday on the Thursday night so hoping to drive down on the Saturday if there are a group heading down then.

Also expecting us to be hidden away due to the 911 display, but if we get enough 924/944's then we can maybe get a better spot together [:)]

A forum meet would be nice [:)]

Parking together would also be nice but I know that the last couple of years cars have been parked "as they come" and in no particular model or register order. One of the reasons cited for this was that "we don't know how many are turning up". Perhaps this thread could help enlighten that discussion. I also seem to remember having to give my registration number and car model when booking the tickets "so that we can verify your vehicle with the club" so someone must know how many 944s/928s/968s/911s or whatever are coming... At any rate, it would seem sensible for the club to line the 911s up together as it will make getting them organised for their parade easier so perhaps things will be different this year.

Paul sticks his neck out....[&o]

I could ask for a specific area at Silverstone, but let's be honest here. We failed to get the 30 cars we wanted to attend our National event last year, and that was our 50th anniversary weekend as a Club and 30th as a Register.

I've done Silverstone for 9 years now, and it's not really a 944 event if parking together is your thing; leave that to the rows of red Ferraris who stand around looking at each other's identical cars! The classic is a three-day event; I spent my first weekend there parking cars by register, when they all went off to watch the racing and socialise!

We've traditionally done a Sunday lunch 944 meet, at the Fire Engine bar. Perhaps that's a better plan to aim for, or maybe a picnic for the Sunday and I can get an area for us? I don't think that a three-day event, with people going with different Porsche clubs or other car clubs, and I feel that we'd be better setting aside a couple of hours on one day where we can all get together, regardless of where we've parked up or what car we came in?

It would be nice to do something along those lines, where we can all meet as a forum group or a "register" however you want to term it. I will want to spend much of the event watching and photographing the racing too! The "picnic" is a good plan. None of us underestimate the problems of getting cars lined up together although if they're lining all the 911s up for other reasons it might just fall out that way for us.

Just need to fix a time, then?

Personally, it's not a three-day event for me as I just get caught up in car parking of coffee serving wnen i could be at work! I'd suggest we fix either Saturday or Sunday lunchtime for a group get-together; we can all be flexible and bring our own food etc., and I can try to get an area of the Club stand where we can group cars up on the day perhaps? If we go for a time slightly outside the peak hours we could try to get the motorhome area to ourselves?

Seems like the outline of a good general plan. I guess between now and a month or so before the event we can get some sort of consensus about which day most of us will be there. I'll be there for all three.

I will be going, if we can get a 944 park / meet that would be really good, if not then a time to meet "somewhere" and I will take one of the other Germans like last year.

Would like to see people put their forum user names somewhere where they can be seen, Dashboard ? and that way we can identify one another, hell i probably spend more time on here having a cyber natter with you lot than i do chatting to her indoors [:)]
Yes an afternoon meet would be good, could we make it Sunday as some souls may not be available on the Saturday........................Martin !
