The Price of Sports Seats!

Ive just watched a pair of late style (968 & 993) black leather sports bolsters sell for just shy of £1,000!!! I thought Id paid a strong price a year or so ago, for a set of perfect 964 sports seats, and they were £380...

At this rate some people will own cars which are worth less complete, than the front seats are worth on their own.

Umm.... that sounds way over the top. The bolsters are worn in my restoration turbo - I did think about trying to get another set. Decided to buy the material and today I eventually dropped them off for a repair at a local company.

Unfortunately at the present time most of our cars are worth more in bits than whole !!
Very strange but there is a programme on Sky discovery right now about a Porsce breaker shop in LA....................Spooky [:(]

Some parts will always be in demand; despite the pool of cars reducing some bit fail due to age as well as use, so they will be incredibly hard to find in good condition. That's why I suggest that we all take off parts from our cars and store them for future sale. [&:]

My recommendations for a pension fund? Stockpile uncracked oval dashes, particularly in blue or split-colours. Door cards without water damage, luggage blinds in good condition, original steering wheels with the stitching intact, that sort of thing.

Just imagine having a warehouse full of new 924/early 944 dashes you could release on to the market one at a time! [8|]

Un-marked late style seats are rare and sports seats in this style are rare in any condition, but £991 is mental. I personally prefer the earlier straight stitched type myself, but their price is constantly creeping up.

Ive just worked out that if I sell all of my leather seats that have 50% of the cost of a 968! This has affected my outlook, somewhat! [:D]

Just look at what some people are paying for 80's Ford bits now, my mate restores RS 2000 and the like, silly money for some bits but people will pay it, he recently paid £400 for 2 new original back lights for a MK 1 Ford Escort, they have started importing rot free shells from Australasia now with any amount of buyers.
PS He is a 944 S2 man at heart !

I wonder how much it would cost to pick up ruined sports seats and have them re-upholstered.... assuming the seats are in good nick otherwise.... I may ask just that question when I return to pick up my seats.

Simkin the afore mentioned matey will visit scrap yards and take back seats if he finds them to recover the seat material which is now impossible to get hold of new, as stated previously good dash tops, front wings which are reairable, seats and steering wheels are worth stashing.
Thankfully Porsche look after the older car so keep using them for bits whenever it is viable as it helps from them pulling the range for older cars.
Just my tuppence

When I bought my latest 944 I put a value of £2k on four parts of it alone - the sports seats, bridge spoiler, original Cup 1 alloys and teardrop mirrors. All items that I would otherwise have to have sourced and then added to any other car I might have purchased. The fact that we all have different priorities when it comes to our cars and their features is what makes it interesting.

There is also a set of pretty spotless black seats that didn't sell for 35. These are 944/964 seats not 993 ones. Depends what you want I suppose.

I got a quote to replace the middle section of all 4 seats and the foam with material I will supply for £380!
At that price to be honest Its probably cheaper to replace with good condition (perhaps cream?) leather saets as I have seen them sell for the £300 mark,

If you want it done to factory quality at someone like Southbound its about £1k for both seats.

I've been watching 944 seats/interiors on ebay lately but holding out for a full cream interior set... if you've got one let me know!

I have a linen rear seat in very good condition, if you want it. Cloth tho', not leather (or leather-look vinyl, as practically all the 'leather' rear seats you ever see are.)
