whoops, just seen a thread on this a few days ago - sorry.

Would be a nice pickup for someone. Nothing to say you couldn't update the stock turbo and possibly wastegate either.

I doubt you would get a lot of benefit from either of those changes on their own, to be honest. It is a great car as it is, but the first thing it would need to develop much more power is a bigger exhaust.

If the car itself is in good overall cosmetic condition then I see it as a good base to work from in order to get all the power of a well set up 3.0T engine.
I'm sure it already feels great to drive as it is now though - sometimes "better" is the enemy of "good"!

Sure, if it's got the stock exhaust then 'Out she goes'. Heavy and very constrictive. As for the better turbo and wastegate, you'd get some benefits if you are able to control boost as well.

Thom, yes that's a fair statement but I think you can improve this car without sliding too far down 'The slope'. [:)]

I think the turbo, the afm and the fueling is a lot more restrictive than the exhaust. My car (3.0) made not far off 400hp with a 2.5 inch exhaust and a standard factory downpipe. I think Paul Smiths car had a standard exhaust as well and made good power.

Here's a link to the original thread with pics when we tested it on track last year

This car is ripe for just a few more tweaks to make plenty big power [8D] IIRC it made 350lbft of torque and 300bhp at only 0.8 bar of boost and it made it far lower down the rev range than any big boosted 2.5 turbos

Looks like a great motor. I suspect 300bhp and 350ft lbs of torque is ample for a road car, especially if it is effectively lagless as Paul has said. Probably best leave it in this trim and enjoy the bullet-proof reliability. Much more and traction becomes a major problem. Does the a/c work? People always forget to mention it with these cars, but I wouldn't buy another 944 without working a/c, especially with leather seats.
