The 924 Register needs a standard 924S for the Porsche Strasse display all day Monday.

There will be 2 areas where the 924 model will be on show:

There will be Anniversary laps of the circuit for cars in both areas at NO EXTRA COST, the Parade Laps will be a combined session for all Anniversary cars, on Monday morning around 10:20 (please report at least 30min before this time to the signing on area near the paddock track entrance)

There may be a limit on numbers for the Anniversary laps but I expect everyone who wants to get on these laps will be able to do so.
There are also Farewell laps which anyone can take part in on Monday 17.50-18.10.
ALL display laps have to be booked in advance and cannot be booked on the day
Minimum age of drivers and passengers on the track is 18.

1. Porsche Strasse - this will be a parked display of models from the earliest 356 to the latest Carrera GT and 997 models - it will start at the main entrance and run in date order all the way down the main entrance road.

Hi Paul, I can only make Monday (29th) this time, but happy to display.

Phil

Hi Paul - I just have a couple of queries:
i) Will the Register displays be in the same area as last year?
ii) May be able to help out on one of the days - what kind of times would I need to be there between?

Thank you Phil - I have noted you down for display on Monday 29th [:)]

Dan, it seems there will a different layout this year - I will let you know about where the cars will be placed, and what times you will need to be there, when I am clear what is happening on the day.

Thanks [:)]

When is the closing date for display cars? I cant let you know if my other 924 turbo will be available until the beginning of July. I woud be happy to show this 64,000 mile unrestored unmolested guards red 924 if I can get the bloom out of the bonnet paintwork but I fear it will need a respray so I need to wait to see what "Father Christmas" brings in the way of profit sharing.

The website for this years Porsche Festival is now up.

Paul, I'm booking parade laps again (onthe Monday) and the form offers am or pm. Does it matter which I choose? I wondered, just in case you needed all the cars together in the register area at a set time?

Phil

I hope all go's well, this is an excellent event and i'm sorry im going to mis-out on this one, but its only 6 weeks before my wife has the baby, so im going to be sitting out a couple of months. If you get the chance to go to this event, its well worth it.

Marc

Phil,

We do this for expedience and from the experience gained last year.

there are a number of sessions, and we may be grouping similar car models togther, so we will allocate a specific slot when we have all the numbers in and will let you know the time and when you have to report at form up.

In fact, in addition to the other parade laps, there is an Anniversary session including 924s scheduled for 12:40 on Sunday. Of course, you can book for more than one session

Blimey, need to get my form in sometime. Is there a specific closing date for the 'cheap' tickets? Unlikely to be doing parade laps or anything else that gets 'booked up' so I guess there's no immediate hurry?

It's late July sometime (19th rings a bell but not sure if that's correct) so you've got a bit of time.

Give the parade laps a go- they're great fun.

Phil

After talking to Robin Walker (the Registers Director) and Nic Doczi (Festival Parade Laps organiser) I understand that all cars that apply for either 924 displays are entitled to free Anniversary lap time (track space allocations permitting - although current numbers attending suggest that all 924 that want to get on track can do so)

Update 12/7/2005 I have deleted and modified part of this post to try to regain some clarity to the issue of 924 display cars - please see the first post for the latest information I have on the event.

I've got to say, the club do make this whole thing damn confusing.

Do I now pay for my parade laps when I send in the booking form, and get a refund if this 'free laps' goes ahead? What if I assume track time/space is available and then don't get some?

I presume the comment "I understand that all cars that apply for the displays are entitled to free display lap time (track space allocations permitting)" means if there aren't enough subscriptions for parade laps then display cars can go out, but it'll be a bit late in the event planning for us to know what we'll get, until the day almost.

Obviously I'm not complaining about the opportunity that's on offer, but it all seems to come out in drips after the publicity and bookings have been started. I know there's a million things being done behind the scenes and I'm very grateful to all those members and the committees for the effort they are putting in, but it's a bit disjointed. Last years parade laps were a bit chaotic (I've a question on them but I'll put it in the main event forum).

...........Phil

Sorry to throw this in the mix - but I thought it better to inform members of this benefit sooner rather than later.

I hope I haven't misinterpreted what Robin said but he seemed quite clear that this was the case - it is a sort of payment for committing cars to the display.

I'll have a look at your question to see what is said.

bump to top post [;)]

Come on people - we need more cars for Brands!

This is the situation with display cars as it stands at the moment.

There is a H&S [sigh] issue that says 'Porsche Strasse' cars (the static cars that will line both sides of the main road - on both days - that leads from the entrance) have to be tied down (not literally [;)]) for display all day, and they will be unable to move for ANY displays except the 'farewell laps' right at the end of Monday.
The cars on this Porsche Strasse display would consist of a 2.0 - a Turbo - and an 'S' model.

What I have asked PCGB is for these cars to be able to at least be able to move for the Anniversary display laps on the Sunday (may be moved to Monday) and the 'Record Attempt' first thing Monday (although this bit may not be a problem)
The 924 Register has an allocation of 10 cars for the Anniversary laps and it seems silly not to be able to move the Strasse cars for that.

PCGB will be responding to my request soon.

Hope this all makes sense!

I'll amend this post as I get more information or think of more to add - but I'm off to bed now [:)]

UPDATE 12/7/2005
Porsche Strasse and Record Attempt cars CAN move with a marshall leading them out to the track - please see the first post for the latest information I have on the event.

It seems perfectly fair to ask the 'Porsche Strasse' display vehicles to remain in place for the duration of each day - from an aesthetic point-of-view, as the display should ideally be there, complete, throughout the weekend. But why does Health & Safety always have to be used as an excuse for these things? The same thing could be achieved just by making it clear in advance that these vehicles can't be moved except in emergency. Okay, there is maybe a chance that someone could be run over / hurt by a Porsche being moved around at 5mph, but since the display is going to be located along the main driveway, where cars will be passing by all weekend, it seems almost laughably remote.

For "H&S Issues" read "unfounded fears of litigation"? I guess there won't be a bouncy castle either eh? Sorry to whinge - it's not my style - but this kind of PC, Americanised crap just gets on my wick a bit, and HSE does not exist to see risk reduced to zero, despite the impressions given at times. Here's hoping both the Club and Brands Hatch will be fine with cars moving for the display lap, e.g. by getting a Marshall on the scene to make sure nobody gets slaughtered.
****
Paul, you said you need more cars for the event - any day particularly? I must admit I had held back because it seemed there were quite a few people coming forward already (and in light of the distance involved I was going to bring the 944) but my 24 can possibly be available on one of the days if needed. Not planning on 'parading' either so it would be fine for any static displays.

Cheers
Dan

Paul, do we send all the info (on our cars) to you for collating and putting into a standard format?

Phil

PS I don't mind if mine goes on the register display or the strasse, but bearing in mind we have very few register cars listed (and the fact that with the 'S2' front-end it looks nothing like the way it left the factory) I guess you'll want me in the register parking, where I shall be least embarrasment to anyone [:D]. Where is that going to be this year?

OK people - It will be possible to move Porsche Strasse display cars for the Anniversary laps on Sunday - we just need someone around to marshal the car/s to where they need to be [:)]
I will amend the original post on this thread when I have 30 minutes to make sure I have all the details correct!

Hi Dan

Whatever days you can attend I will be happy [:)] I may have a 2.0 for the Porsche Strasse already but I will certainly bear you in mind if anything changes. Please let me know what you can do.

Hi Phil

Yes, with the modified front end your car will have to go into the Anniversary display parking area which is on the left hand side just after you have driven in through the main entrance of Brands on the main road.

Thanks everyone.
