THAMES VALLEY REGIONAL CONCOURS

I am pleased to announce that I recieved an email this morning from Tony and Harriet Shannon confirming that they will form two thirds of a three person team to judge our regional concours competition. Tony and Harriet are recognised experts in the field of concours competitions, an on their recommendation, I am looking for a third person with experience of concours to volunteer to help with the judging. On Tuesday I will confirm with The Royal Berkshire Hotel our intention to hold the event on the 24th June. For concours competitors who like things just so, I will ensure that the grass is cut a week in advance, and will ask the hotel to if they can make available some form of water supply. I am awaiting a full members list whereupon I will send out emails to members to get the best coverage of the region. Get polishing, spread the word, and more than anything else enter. Keep an eye open for the entry form which will be appearing on a forum near you very soon.

A new category called Entry Level Concours (show and shine) has been introduced since the Workers Conference/AGM, but as is traditional in Thames Valley our our concours will be judged in accordance with the Pride of Ownership (street) rules. For a complete set of rules, please either email Tony and Harriet at R16@porscheclubgb.com or me at R19@porscheclubgb.com

So far the regional concours entry form has been downloaded 14 times. Is that going to be it?
Further details are that competitors or spectators can arrive from 8.30, but please have consideration for the hotel residents that earrly in the morning. We would like all entrants to register by 10:00 am with a view to beginning judging by 10:30
I have asked Royal Berks to accomodate our requiremnet to get grass cut seven days before the event and competitors will have a water supply available , but actualities of the supply have not been confimed yet.

I hope to get to the concours to show support but not to enter I'm afraid. That's a busy weekend for me. I wonder how many others are thinking of attending but not entering?

Entry to the concours is not compulsory, neither is spectating come to think about it. It will be what it is. Good weather will be an asset of course. If all the concours team and myself achieve is the reversal of the insidious air of pessimism about the potential withering of the region, then I will take the positives from that and consider it a step forward. All anyone can do is to demonstrate willingness and enthusiasm to the members and hope that some of it rubs off. More anecdotes on the 3rd.

What is the situation here - I would like to enter mine, but its far from concours condition. I would like to participate for the experience rather than the trophy! Is this possible, or will it detract from the purpose of the event?!

Thames Valley judge competitors buy the Pride of Ownership (street concours) Rules. No points are awarded for the underside of the vehicle, or the underbonnet areas. Post mail me with your private email address and I will email you a full set of the concours "Pride" rules which includes the scoring system.

I suggest you enter. Its fun, its competitive and can be quite hard work, you do get a decent parking place ([][]), but at the end of the day you may well get hooked like a lot of us have. Have a go, you have nothing to lose!

I would like to. I have always had my cars as working cars - i.e. I drive them, and I dont worry too much about a few marks here and there. I spend my money on the mechanics! I have two bits of filler on the front (below the window), as one day the bonnet flew up and the edge dug into the body....if one does not secure the bonnet, then when you drive, the wind gets under the bonnet, and flips it up...scary!

It will be good to get her cleaned up and on show, but I will certainly come last! But I love her anyway!!

For the benfit of John and other members who may be vascillating about entering let me further elucidate as I understand it. A regional concours is as much about helping the regionial members get a feel for the actualites of the competition, and giving them first hand experience in a competetive siutation.(as well as giving the first step towards advancing to the "National" levels), as it is about the ability of any car to take home a trophy. I believe that it is a requirement that "National" entrants shall have competed at regional level first. In "street" the underside and underbonnet areas are not assessed. Only you can decide wether you want to have a go for the fun of the competition (who knows you may be the only the only entrant in your class of vehicle) or wehther you think your vehicle has a good chance of holding its own against stiff competition. Either way, the scoring will indicate the areas that need to worked on to enable your overall score to improve, if for example, you decide to enter any other club concours this year or for the length of time you own the vehicle.

I believe that it is a requirement that "National" entrants shall have competed at regional level first.

This is a nice "qualification" to have, but at present this criterion is not being enforced for entry to the National Concours.

Good to see 924nutter getting the region motivated again.

Like one of the previous posts, my car is not 'concours' condition and that excludes the trip down to Le Mans on the previous weekend. I might be able to scrape some enough cash together and buy the judges a round, if that helps []
