hi ive just been for a 2hr drive around suffolk and i noticed that my temp guage needle kept flickring and strugled to get to the 1st mark from cold never had this before any idea ?

s2 the car always sits at the 1st mark unless iam sitting in traffic goes about halfway on the gauge then fans get going it drops back to 1st mark does this sound normal to other s2 owners water pump was replaced in 2003 was check when i got the car when it had belts/chain was told it was fine could its be themostat?

My S2 sits between first and second mark (a little less than a quarter of the way up from first) most of the time. I had a new pump and thermostat about 12K kilometers ago. I'd try unplugging and replugging the wire on the temp sensor before I did anything else - sounds electrical to me - so a little corrosion on the connector could be your trouble. If cleaning the connections doesn't help then try taking the temp at your expansion tank and see what a normal thermometer reads. If you are in fact running cold then start looking for other troubles - and yes - probably thermostat.

thanks guys left the car till 7.30 pm to get cold and went for another drive and it not done it this time good hours drive
