Hi all
Hoping there's a Targa roof guru out there somewhere...
I have a 1977 2.7 Targa and I have just had the roof recovered by a local coach trimming shop, it has come back looking great but I can't fit it to the car yet. The reason is that the old plastic shells on the locating pegs at the back of the roof were all brown and split, so I took them off and bought some new replacement shells from Porsche. The restorer says he spent over a hour trying to work out how to get them fully down over the pegs, and I have been trying for a while back at home too without success. I have tried putting them in boiling water, he tried putting a pinprick in the end to allow any trapped air pressure to be released and a bit of grease on the pegs, but no luck so far. They slide down to about 1cm from the base of the peg, when the internal ridges have slid over 2 of the slots on the peg, but then won't move any further.
Since Porsche sell the replacement peg assembly without the sleeve this must be something they expect people to be able to do themselves - but how the heck do you do it??
