Targa Body Brace

I recently tried to purchase a body brace for my 86 Targa Supersport from Pelican Parts in the States, to see if it would get rid of a few of the squeaks.

However after placing the order via the website (visit if you haven' t already), I got an e-mail asking me to fax a clear copy of my credit card and one form of id. I was not too happy at the prospect of this, so explored the possibility of a bankers draught or bank transfer. The cost of both of these were prohibitive in relation to the order value, so I cancelled the order.

To get to the point, has anybody else encountered a similar request when ordering goods from the States (faxed image of credit card)? But more importantly has anybody seen a Targa body brace advertised anywhere else?

I have encountered some websites in the US which were not happy to accept orders over the web from non-nationals. I think this is due to them being caught out through fraud. It is hard for them to pursue any claim or recover the goods.
This seems to affect higher value or easier to sell on products.

I have not heard of anyone wanting a fax of the card, although if you look on the back where you sign, there is a number. This is sometimes used to prove you have the card infront of you (a card present transaction), rather than being someone dodgy having hacked a website and pulled off other people' s credit card details (minus this detail).

Rgds, Stuart.
