Swapped my R for a GT4

What a great reason to invest in a very special car.

I put in a half hearted deposit on a 991 GT3 Mk2 and wasn't too worried when I had it returned.

I will be very disappointed if I don't get a GT4 RS ... if such a thing becomes reality.

What a wonderful package they are ... they even have two boots !!!

Just returned from our R16 trip to Wales I'm my yellow C Sport. First long trip since I bought it from OPC Bristol. Just under 500 miles of very nice motoring.

Managed to do a few miles in the car this weekend and am already of the opinion that this is the best car I have ever driven. Totally amazed by its grip and composure. Very, very happy that I made the move. [:)]

I have the time booked off. Just not sure what i'm bringing or even if i'm just coming along for the craic. Want to watch the racing the weekend before but not sure that will work if i bring the Cup . Lots of stuff up the air at the moment. I have literally. just fitted a new clutch plate to the Cup and still need to shake it down and confirm all is well. The 996 needs some tlc also but is an option.

Loving this car the more I drive it. Another recent pic for posterity [:)]

Great photo

The GT4 is a standout in yellow and the black wheels are just perfect .....

The whole experience in the GT4 is great , the balance and performance is tremendous . I really haven’t found anything to say against the car at all ... even the oft quoted ‘long gearing ‘ just seems to be perfect for the roads I drive on ...

I find myself just looking for opportunities to slip in a couple of hours behind the wheel .......

That is a great shot Steve - yellow's got to be the stand-out colour for the GT4.

Definitely one for the archive.

Jeff

Not usually a fan of yellow , but the GT4 wears it very well with the black contrasts .

Great to have a new Porsche for the Spring and a new learning curve to explore :p

A friend of mine is selling his mint 5k mile Cayman GT4 very soon . White , 18 way seats ,

Never tracked ( shame :) Anyone want more details ?

Yellow was the winner for the GT4 for sure.

It's a great looking car in all colours though which is not the norm for many cars.

I wish I gelled with mine more , but there you go.

If you are not scared of revs and why would you be, you can do most B roads in 3rd alone and that did mean 12 mpg for me.

on track it sat at 6mpg, that took the edge of it being a daily and was a pitter at track days having to find fuel or pay over the odds at track.

The gearing DID ruin the car imo, the MPG did not help, the fixed rear SUS was an odd move by Porsche !!!! I scraped every where, and it would have be a result with the x51 lump from the 991GTS which makes power to red line.

So close but yet just not there, all those few little things add up!!!! if they fix the gearing in the next one and add a bit of top end, , it will be the best car ever ! and be impossible to buy list as normal !!!

Still a class leading great car and any one who gets to own one is very lucky imo.

I managed to buy at close at list....just had to wait for them to be nearly three years old to come back down to list. :ROFLMAO:

Quick question for other GT4 owners...what anti roll bar settings are you using? Haven't checked mine yet but will make adjustments when I get the geo done soon.

once the geo is dialed in middle middle.

I did try hard rear on the road for a bit and it was ok, but at speed too unstable once I got my geo done.

geo it up and go oem middle/middle imo. I ran -2.2 up front and -1.8 at the rear , with oem rear toe and no toe in up front.was a great fast road car you could track, with perfect tyre wear and not the understeering mess oem was. car could do 1.5G on the road !

without rear toe links you might be stuck at -1.6 max rear though on a good day, which means dialing back the front also (not great) !!!

Thanks David. Middle Middle it will be then. Will see what Danny at Unit 11 comes up with when he does the geo and am prepared for it to be a compromise while it's under warranty.

Interested to hear from the OP re the geo work done, how it feels on road/track afterwards etc. I have also moved from a CR to a GT4, but haven't driven the new car much yet, and its completely stock at the moment. Will be at PCGB trackday Silverstone. So the geo work gives more adjustability - makes it handle better / less understeer and helps with tyre wear..... anything else? Ballpark cost? Presume it voids warranty?

Steve, I'm also middle middle ...

P.S. I'm also booked on the PCGB Silverstone day ... suspension could be a long conversation !

Hi JR, I'm having the geo checked/adjusted on Thursday. Nothing fancy, I just want to make sure it's within spec as the geo can get knocked out by general road driving. I guess it hasn't been checked since new. Only takes a big pothole or kerb to knock it out of line. They'll set it up for fast road driving which usually means a bit more negative camber and checking ride height and corner weights. I'll probably have a little bit of toe in at the front. Although that can create a little bit more understeer, it's the way I like it. Cost wise it'll be an hour or two labour so about £150. They're old school and use camber gauges, string and mirrors which is how they set up race cars at the track side so there's no extra cost for laser equipment.

TBH I've found the car to be so stable on the road I doubt they will find anything to be seriously out of line. No effect on warranty - it's just checking and adjusting nuts and bolts really.
