Suspension replacement

What is the general consensus on replacing the standard suspension setup like for like without going for OEM?
Or is OEM the best bet - I don't want to use stiffer springs etc

OEM is certainly expensive. A recent check at my local OPC shows that a new front strut/damper for my S2 is £229+ Vat each, although they happily give 10% off for club membership (which I am, even though it doesn't say so, and I've emailed them about it. Twice.[:mad:]).

I was going to go for the Koni insert option, which involves some fettling of the struts in my case, but works out cheaper, and I get some adjustability as a bonus. This allied with my new anti-roll bar bushes will, I am sure, bring substantial gains to my current original setup. If you haven't already, fit the KLA Industries anti-roll bar supports, as they are a cheap and effective upgrade.

There will be a lot of people however who swear by the KW3 option, particularly as an upgrade from MO30, and I have no doubt it's fantastic, but it's £££s.
 
I drove another PCGB forum member's 968 last night that I believe has the Koni insert option and I must say I thought it was excellent!!

I'm now sorely tempted to do the same to my S2, but must resist until I've done a few more imprtant jobs!

WI, you've got the upgrade bug already - welcome to the club!! All being well, I'm going to drop in at 'your' bodyshop tomorrow to get an estimate for my few bits of bodywork.

I've ordered all new fixings for the plastic side trims (sills & wings) so I'm ready to strip them off in readiness[:D]
 
Fixings, now that's an oversight I've made! Any chance you can tell me what you bought/where you bought them from?

Edited to add: I can't seem to get in touch with Surface & Design today, I wanted to make my firm booking. I'm just hoping I can get in touch with them tomorrow so that I can get everything done before its next round of mechanical fettling mid May.

There seems to be a few of "us" around the Fylde coast now....
I bet it was PJS ,s car you had a "go" in last night...????I know him very well....[:D][:D]

Good bet, bang on the money!

Yeah there does seem to be a lot of 'us' in the area (although I don't spot many out and about), it must be something in that Irish Sea breeze!!

You'll get OEM Boge/Sachs units from Eurocarparts / Design911 / Porscheshop etc. Prices vary. I did all 4 shocks on the S2 and paid approx £115 for each front strut, and £86 for the pair of rear struts (not £86 each).

This was the cheapest option for me and made a huge difference to the body control and therefore handling. You certainly wouldn't describe the end result as overly "stiff" by today's standard, but that not necessarily a bad thing.

I did consider inserts too but backed off.

One more question. I rang Bolton OPC and Gary was trying to work out what I needed when he remembered your recent order so he looked at yours as a guide.

Did you just order the relevant fixings? If so I can just replicate your order.

When he went through the list some of the items sounded unusual and he wasn't sure what they were, I don't want to end up with a heap of parts I don't need!

I'm looking at replacing the front struts on my 944 Turbo and after some searching of the forum I'd noticed that www.motorsportworld.co.uk had been mentioned previously. £102 inc VAT each for the front Koni Sport inserts !!!!! BARGAIN [:)]

Oli did that exact procedure last summer but I can't remember the price he paid. I am pretty sure he found a better source for the insert (it might have been Frazer Parts? [&:]) but he'll be along at some point to confirm.

It may take him a while - he has infinite turbo lag :ROFLMAO:

I wonder how much more mileage we can get out of this mickey taking [;)]
 
Matt, I ordered two things on top of the side fixings - rear light cluster seals and a new sunroof arm guide, you won't want those!!

Apart from that everything should relate to the side trim fixings - I think most of them were in stock in the UK and they are going to post them out to me.

Get them to check before you order![:D]

Will have to meet up - mine's going in for its head off on the 14th, but I'm hoping I have it back for the Oulton Park Porsche race meeting on the 19th.

You also drove an S2 with full KW set up as well, damn I spend too much money on suspension[:D][:D][:D]
 
my S2 has adjustable konis all round and its bloomin bone shaking hard ride especially on pot holed country roads.
It corners like a train on rails though
 
Racers Edge cambper plates are superb. They really sharpen up the handling - thought the adjustment is not really a feasible option as it changes the toe settings too much. Unlike alot of the camber plates available they have minimal effect on ride height so you can fit them to stock non-adjustable suspension. I do get a bit of noise from them from time to time but that is no bother.
