suspension rattle

My 39000-mile 2001 BoxsterS has just developed a suspension rattle-My OPC say it is a rear drop arm bush "not an unknown defect they say.Just pay us another £520 and we will fix it"!! Anyone else have experience of this? This is my 14th Porsche and I am getting fed up with the ever increasing number of defects which cost big money.
 
I got this fault too on my 2.5L '99 boxster. You get excessive play in the control arms over time. Both these and the corresponding bushes should be changed. Its a common fault as they say. It can easily be fixed at a good non-OPC garage for less than £500.

IMHO, for a 2001 plate, it's getting near the point where I wouldn't bother with an OPC anymore. The boxster 2nd hand market is near saturation (see ebay) with the resultant prices falling markedly. Unless you plan to sell in the near future, I would go independent.

There are some excellent non-OPCs out there (usually ex-porsche guys). They can also stamp your service log. See other listings for recommendations in your area.

Can you share these with us - I've only had one item fail in 81K miles?

On previous 2.5:_ new engine at 40,000.variocam failing at75000 on new engine. rear shocks defective and replaced.door membranes.air con fan. steering rack complete.cat clips. etc etc. Car driven sensibly with no track days and perfect opc service history.
 
Thanks Ian-I am going to investigate a little further. I have also noticed how much the cars have dropped recently! cheers John.
