supplementary air valve

Can anyone help with this
I have found a supplementary air valve just hanging down by the brake servo, it has a vacuum pipe connected and a two wire connection but two hoses, one is hanging at the bottom and the other coming out from the side by the vacuum body are not attached to anything.
where does this unit attach to and where do the hoses go, also what does it do?
many thanks, new 944s guy

I have now found out that the ali unit that has the electric connection is from a 924 auxiliary air valve and mind also has a short hose to a diagram with a vacuum hose and a short hose that goes to a same size hose ( via a tee) that runs from right to left starting at the wing and goes to the other side down the bauk head of the engine compartment and disappears under the car.
the car runs ok'iss with unit connected to the inlet manifold, vacuum connected and the electric connector in place and the short hose hissing. cover the hose and the car stalls.
All a bit confusing.
ANY HELP please

I'll have a look at mine tomorrow but it doesnt have the same type of vapour system.
A lot of the fuel vapour recovery systems have been taken off the cars, but I dont know exactly what they do to remove it!
The alloy 924 valve looks like the ISV on my 1983 car with the 2 pin connector and the diaphragm valve looks like a heater control one from an '85 on car, so someone has been really fiddling!
Does the pipe go under the car or just down the bulkhead? Because the heater valve is low down by the bulkhead.
Does the car have an ISV under the inlet manifold?
Any chance of pics of the bits of the engine so we can pour over the whole thing?
Sorry lots of questions!

Hi Mike
Its all a bit confusing I have a hose from the inlet manifold that looks original,I have a two pin connector that will not go very far from the loom and I have a straight coupler for the charcoal canister hose where the control valve with a short hose for the tee to that hose and also a vacuum pipe again looks original that connects to the control valve.
I spoke to bosch and porsche they both say I should have a idle speed adjuster and the PETs shows no sav ( also known as electric air valve and auxiliary air regulator).
sorry cant down load pictures as they are to big ?? so i will send them to you
many thanks

Hi Andy
Pic 1 shows what I would assume is the idle control valve, should be 3 pin plug. This valve on the early 944s is only 2 pin. It is attached to the block and has 1/2" ish pipes from a Y connector on the top of the oil condenser to through the ISV to the bottom of the flexible inlet trunking.
The other side of the Y connector goes to a valve mounted on the cast inlet.
The vac pipe to to the servo comes from the bottom of the cast inlet.
I have no charcoal filter so not sure how that fits in to the scheme!
The small 3mm ish vac pipes - 1 goes from the throttle body to a Y piece and then to the FPR and damper and 1 goes to a Y piece then to a Valve on the heater system at the back of the head, and the other side goes to the vac resevoir - that is the extent of these systems on my 2.7 -8 valve

Thanks for that info
I have two ways forward, one, find a 16 ventiler 1987 owner near to peterborough and compare setup or two, replace the supplemental air valve (mind is not shutting off) and run the car with this set up.
Iam new to the porsche 944s, and bought the car thinking it needed a tune up.
If you know anyone that is prepared to have his car looked at please pass my mobile number on.
many thanks

Hi gents, ok had a look through the thread any chance of the pics so I know what I am looking at? Can ou post them up Mike?
I will then have a look at mine for you tonight.

If you fancy a run to Colchester you are more than welcome to look at mine to compare, or if you want we are meeting up in Brighton on Sunday? Other than that I am booked up for a couple of weekends if you are still no sorted by then we can arrange to meet halfway maybe so as to compare if you like.

I do have a 16v engine PET file on my laptop, send me an email and I will forward to you tonight and see if that helps.

Thanks for the photo, yes that is how mine should look, but some previous owner had installed a aav instead. I went to see Elliot at his porkaparts work shop on Friday and he sorted me out.
However iam still not getting idle at cold starting, so iam back to stage one.http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/micons/m12.gif

Hi Muzz,

Have you tested your Idle Stableiser under the inlet manifold, also their is a vacuum line that goes underneath by the TB if I remember correctly make sue that is connected otherwise it does idle really bad.

Regards

Gavin
