Sunroof testing

Ok so maybe I'm being dim but I'm gradually working through Clarks to try and sort out my sunroof.
Already I have one reading on the switch itself that doesn't match Clarks but I thought I'd test the switch feed and the relay.

Now it says I should get a 12v reading from 2 different terminals on the bit you push the switch into I can get nothing.
Am I doing it right - switch multimeter to 20v stick probe into appropriate hole and switch ignition key to setting as described. Earth other probe to something metal?

With the relay itself in the fuse box - again nothing. remove relay, stick probe into spade hole switch multimeter to 20v, stick switch ignition key to setting as described. Earth other probe to something metal?
I can't believe none of it works so it must just be me.

Anyone confirm this for me. I not very electrically minded as you can tell but surely sticking a multimeter into a circuit should be easy enough?

ETA my main g21 relay rattles. My knowledge may be scant but I don't imagine this is a goods sign.

The easiest solution is to take the car to your nearest specialist. While its there, and if the sun is still out, use your 21. And if it rains, use your 996 tt. Simples. (And if we're really unlucky and it snows, use your RR). It's at times like these David, that owning many cars makes sense.

Cheers Ewan. Fortunately the roof is closed so it doesn't actually stop me using it!
It needs a service and MOT so yes I could get someone else to fix it (and may well yet!) but it is nice to fix the odd thing yourself occasionally.
By my counting (2 of those, a 951, a supercharged one of those and one of issigonis's best) I still don't think I've got more cars than you either!
