I have recently developed a problem with my sunroof !

With the keys in the ignition but the engine off the pins will releace as normal, but will not engage ! If i then engage the pins manually from the motor, with the ignition turned on the pins will then return the roof back to the locked postion but will not raise the roof ?

I have taken apart the switch and cleaned it, all is fine with the switch, i have checked the relays on the roof motor again all seams fine, the wiring also seams fine although i have only visually checked it at this point. Any body ran across similiar problems ??

I'm not sure my threads will help as I've abandoned any attempts to get it working for now and am just happy to have a leak-free roof [] []

Good to hear from you again Marc.

Call me thick but I am not quite following this. Are you turing the motor shaft to engage the pins? Are you continuing to raise the roof to its full extent manually, where upon the motor will close it, or are you setting the roof to where you think it is in the closed position and operating the switch whereuppon the mechanism finds it's home position? Having givin it more thought, andedited this post, ineither case it is likely to be a problem with one of the four microswitches; there are three on the motor plate in the luggage compartment, and one on the roof pivot, if memory serves me correctly. According to PET the centre bearing has a cable, item 44 which it lists as microswitch centre, but the quality of the sketch is insufficient to be able to determine whether there is a switch on one end or whether it is a plug that connects to a switch. In summary there are four microswitches and two relays whose function is suspect, because I doubt if anything has come loose and is out of adjustment. I have no information about setting up the switches, other than it is best left to an expert unless you know absolutely what you are doing. In the past I have tried with little or no sucees, and you can do seriuos damage to the lift motor gear in the early models. On the "S" the gear most likely to strip is the nylon gear in the wheel box for each arm or arc, but these are listed as a part.

In the case of the earleir version without geared arcs, I think the motor is simialr to a left hand window motor inclusive of the easily (comparatively) strippable nylon gear, and if you srtip a tooth it's a lesson in experimentation to see if the window lift motor is interchangle. PET lists the motor separately for the roof but part numbers can't be compared because the window motor is not listed separtely for a comparison to be made. What I can tell you is that the 924 has a roof motor 944 624 011 00 which as you would expect from the part number is the same as early 944 up until such time as the mechanism was changed to the one with the lifting arcs with the gear teeth along one edge. The 924 S , which has the geared arcs has a motor part 944 624 011 01.

thanks for the reply, and to close the roof i have manually engaged the roof, and continued to the fully raised position, and then the motor will return the roff to the closed postion, so for now im happy as the roof is closed and leak free. I will put the car in for a service soon, so i think i will leave it until then and ask porscheshop to have a look for me.

Ps thanks Phil and Mr Nutter . i also managed to re-spray the car over the last couple of weeks and added the 944 side strip
