sunroof help

I have no power to my sunroof motor and also to the centre terminal(a) on the sunroof main relay in the fusebox.I have checked clarkes manual and have a workshop manual from porsche and I know the following work ok:
ignition switch, main relay and rear relays, sunroof rocker switch, sunroof motor, micro switch between visors, rear micro switches.
I have considered rewiring from the ignition switch all the way to the sunroof motor and wonder if this is a better option or is there something that Iam missing?
This problem is driving me mad and would appreciate any help.many thanks Alan

Alan,
Mine too has decided to stop working, not had a good look at it yet, checked the fuses(s) sunroof relay not fitted in relay slot indicated on fuse/relay cover which is blanked (86 Turbo) keep me posted and vice versa, i will have a fiddle at the weekend.

Cheers Alan,
What i am saying is there is no relay in the slot indicated it is blanked,it hs not been removed > what is the part number and i may be able to identify it, wondering if my fuse box lid has ben replaced with that of a different model hence the duff info ?
I cannot compare with my other car (non sunroof)
I had been refitting the ECU's sometime before the roof gave up but a quick check back in there and everything still appears in order.

If I was wiring the sunroof to direct feed how would I go about this,is it a case of picking up the live from ignition or is there another way?
Frenchy if you give me a call I can check my relays and fusebox lid as a comparison.
Alan

Heres my 2.7s fuse box index etc Its the Aluminium second from the end top row G21

Whats really strange is the 2.7 doesn't have a turbo(!) but appears to have a turbo water pump relay - G22!

Not pulled it out to see what stops!

Cheers Mike,
Mine is indicated as being G21 but blank and it has not been removed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,strange !
Get a Turbo fitted then if the wiring is already in situ !!! [:D]

Still have this problem and I havent a clue now[&o]can anybody please help even if there is a way to bypass any wiring to make the roof work

This might be a case of chasing the current from its source all the way until you lose it. If you've got a multimeter, work methodically from a place where you're certain the wire is live, and check each terminal (relay, fuse, switch etc) at both input and output until you lose the current. It will either be lost in a terminal (blown fuse, broken switch etc) or a broken wire (feed or earth). Once you've found the first 'break' in the circuit, replace or repair the offending issue and continue along the path of the current if necessary to fix any other issues.

Have you ever had the roof working?
Has the fuse box been changed?
Are there any spaces with contacts but no relays?
Ate there any loose wires under the fuse box?
Just some thoughts.

Have you tried a direct feed to the motor control unit?

More thoughts!
Power is fed from different sources (Pos 1 or 2 on the ignition switch) and depending on which is on, the rocker switch does different things so if its not working in either position its most likley be the main power to the relay? The obvious problem there should be in the fuse box.

Hi Mike
the rocker switch works as it should do but the power to the main relay centre terminal isnt live,I did try another live feed to this terminal with no joy.
Would you have any idea where I could take the feed from and if it is the fusebox should I replace it
Alan

It would need to be a fairly heavy duty feed.
Have you ever had the roof working or did it just not work one day?

Ok so the way its wired was ok.
Have you done anything to disturb the wiring?
If not then something (wire relay switch fuse) has broken, its difficult work out exactly what should be live and when
from the diagram when switches alter their purpose depending on the position of other switches. It's much easier if you have another working example to compare with.
Not sure which version you have but if you want to come up and do a comparison with my 2.7 your welcome.
If its an oval dash I'd sit in the boot with a lead from the battery and at least test the operation Luke that to narrow down the search.

Well I replaced my fusebox today and I have some progress in that the sunroof arms will retract to release the roof [:)]...however I have to manually wind the sunroof motor to lift the roof up [&o]Has anybody got an idea on this please?
Alan

when mine was like that it was the front microswitch (middle of roof between sun visors ) not sure if earlier cars are the same,
Tony
