Summary of PCM2.1 Updates

Hi Folks, This makes fascinating reading. I am glad Navi was not available when my 993 was lovingly made. Ironically I purchased an after market Becker navigation system last year. The modest price included 2 years of European map updates and foc radar warnings. I regularly update both prior to my continental trips. I swear by it. Radar updates are by email and arrive every eight weeks or so. The graphics of the Becker leave the Audi system fitted to A5 coupes looking far too complicated to capture at a quick glance. The choice of voice is good. I have chosen a reliable bloke to talk to me. Now I learn Porsche fit Harmann Becker to Caymans! Where did it all go wrong. By the by when my free update expires it is about £90 per annum to renew. As much as I love the new cars I will stick with my Metzger wonder thank you very much. Hanhams81

Hi, Sorry I omitted to mention that the unit accepts full postal addresses and has not let me down once so far. Hanhams81

ORIGINAL: Richard Hamilton As I understand it, the maps on PCM3 are updated using the PIWIS tester, and a code is required for them to be transferred to the hard drive. The code is obtained from Porsche when you pay for the new maps.
Thats a bugger!! Yes the post code thing is annoying, will try the partial postcode too. So who do I buy a beer for a copy of PCM2.1? :)

Just to update this a little, I have just purchased the latest map DVD for Europe, which is 08.2012. Not cheap, at just over £300 +VAT. Part number 997.044.903.50. There are no further software updates, and it was plug & play in my sysetm. Still only partial postcode, and the map data files on the disk are 02.2012, so 3 and a bit years newer than the last one.

do Porsche update the PCM when servicing? It seems unlikely, but i noticed that the reading OPC wasn't a point of interest before i took the car in but is is now. min eis pcm 3 from a 2011 car.

There was a recent update for PCM3 to allow full postcode searches, which wasn't available at launch. Perhaps they did that?? Unlikely, but possible.

Hello Everyone,

I'm the recent happy owner of a 987 S with the PCM2.1 in Level A software. I've checked all versions and my Bose Amplifier is safe to update via CD.

Where can I find the PCM Update discs to update my main unit to level C?

Thank you all for the valuable information on this forum.

Best regards,

Diogo Quintão
