strut brace

hi is it a good idea to fit a front strut brace ?
if so what one & best place to where i can get one ?

It's up to you really. I fitted one to my 993 a while back. I took it for a drive without, fitted the brace and then drove the same route again in the same manner. The turn in and responsiveness is improved marginally. I'm sure it makes a bigger difference on the track. However, don't expect any drastic changes in the behaviour of the car as a result of fitting it. Finally, it does look good under the bonnet. I got mine from Carnewal. Apparently it is a copy of genuine Porsche item. The quality is superb. pp

mine is a c2 coupe so not much point in fitting one ?

Not sure really... I was just being a bit contentious. The Coupe body is very stiff though, and I doubt if a driver could tell whether there was a brace on or not. Someone with more knowledge experience will no doubt answer soon! Will

Maurice - do you know if the one Gert sells an actual Porsche factory part? 250 euro does not sound too bad - there are plenty of more costly bits one could add! I wonder what a UK dealer charges for the same? tim

when I asked a dealer they said about 350 but they were on back order, I got one from a person in the states that had a few on a shelf, all in i think mine cost about £200 inc shipping, taxes etc. And its the proper rs version

thanks Maurice - i also communicated with Gert who confirmed the same. now i have stiffer suspension, i'm thinking it may be a decent addition to the car, but i would only want to fit a genuine Porsche one. As you are clearly a guru on 993 matters, Maurice - do you know if the Turbo S was supplied with a strut-brace and if so, was it the same as the RS one? cheers tim

ORIGINAL: MoC2S Documentation on the Turbo S is very hard to come by, Tim. TTBoMK they had no strut brace as standard, but I'm happy to be corrected ... [:-] The other one you may find (on my car, for instance .. ;-)) is the factory GT2 EVO one .. AFAIK these are no longer available except as clones. Very simple, strong and light .. Maurice - I'm shocked - is your car 'not as nature intended'? sell me your strut brace - it belongs on a turbo car - and you'll feel better returning yours closer to factory spec

. Also, the porsche-nerd in me requires that i ask you to reply with the part number for the GT2 EVO strut brace (please) (btw - comms with Gert confirms the TTS did have it's own brace, but with a carbon finish and a Turbo S script - no longer available, of course...) tim

Dave, I haven't read through the entire thread, so I apologise if I'm repeating anything that has been said, but the carbon fibre strut brace you mentioned above is very, very similar to the one sold by Advanced Car Products ([link=http://www.advancedcarproducts.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=Strut_P964]here[/link]). ACP is run by Rob Mugglestone - one of the publishers of Total 911 - and he is a dedicated Porsche enthusiast having owned a 964 in the past and a GT3 currently. I bought one of the carbon fibre strut braces for my (now ex-) BMW 330 and it was extremely well made and I have no doubt the 993 version will be just as good. Their price is £149 - so not a million miles from the French one in pricing. No affiliation ............. Regards Dave

i got it on very easy to do, only prob is i have to cover it over with the floor carpet cuz theres no slots for it to fit round the two brackets, i didnt want to cut it but i might have to, whats your thoughts on doing this, have you ?

For anyone contemplating the fitting off a strut brace - don't split the carpet in way of the brace end pieces. Mark carefully and with the brace disconnected from the ends make as small an incision as it needs to poke the brace fixing through each side. A neater finish can be had by sewing an edging around the cut. Sad really?? My cabby felt better for the addition of a brace, a carbon fibre one but most will do the same job. Martin
