strange handling

ORIGINAL: George Elliott

Steve, as mentioned above just tyres makes a huge difference, I once had Avon zzr rear tyres which made my car drive like it had 600bhp, replaced with conti sports, problem solved.

If you had a diff it would be less hairy and more balanced side to side, an open diff always behaves differently on the crown-wheel driven side to the opposite side and can cause the unbalanced behaviour you refer to.

BTW, what did you drive before, excl the Stratos [:)] just thinking if you are used to an A4 Quattro or similar the s2 will be a bit analogue.

last 4 years have been almost all S2 as its my daily so plenty miles under my belt in one. previously a lot of 4 wheel drive Subaru and volvo XC 70 (yuk) The stratos replica is in a different league when it comes to twitchy, lift off oversteer can be spectacular (use to sprint it - luckily Abingdon motorcarnavel has very large run offs)

loads of posts thinking tyres so will be interesting to try it on the tyres from my white S2 should change over soon.

will keep you informed, thanks for all the suggestions

very wet and I put it down to the tyres being very old and the rubber having gone hard. Happend next in damp conditions same tyres then lastly at the weekend again very slighty damp and cold but on quality winter tyres.

Wrong tyres and a little too much exuberance, possibly.[&:] Even my (924) Turbo it doesn't have that problem on the straight. Worth checking it out underneath, though[;)]

its interesting peoples experience with tyres.I bought some winter cup 1 alloys so 7in and 9 in , P6000 on front and Nankang
M & S on the rear and have been suprised how well it handles.Much better turn in and much more rear end grip in all conditions.I have std D90 alloys with Falkens for summer but will probably fit some summer tyres to the 9in cup rears instead.
