StoneChips?

Ex Skyline

I have noticed just recently that my 944 has rather a lot of tiny paint chips at the front end, probably too many is my opinion (hence why i want a respray), is this a normal occurance for this marque or has my car been blasted with a sawn off shotgun whilst parked on my drive?

Hi Pete

The front of our cars are prone to stone chips, more so if used on track days, mine needs the front redoing now, it had a full respray back in 2000 so overdue some TLC.

Pete

Pretty normal I would say, you can get some kits like Chipex and DrColorchips that offer a mid term solution and may mask some of your chips until you can sort a respray. A good ppf like paintshield will offer good protection to new paint but it not cheap.

Thanks guys, i thought as much. I saw a silvery light blue 944 turbo today in Brighton (he must live here too because i see him all the time) and that looked like he was the victim of a sawn off shotgun attack too!! Respray time methinks [:)]

I tried with some scepticism one of those colour magic chip crayons on my Cayenne (metallic black) and was actually impressed how well it masks little chips on her nose.Cheap and quite effective..great for low down little chips not right in the eye aswell.
Paz (known to many on here[:D])has been kind enough to introduce me to Dodo juice detailing products and I have become interested in polishing techniques and making the best of my Cayenne now she is getting on a bit.
Going to use my new polishing skills on my black turbo when I get a chance and it stops raining[:-]

Mike, it could well of been my car that you saw mate[:D]. Mark, you are welcome to try your dodo juice inspired polishing techniques on my Black Turbo mate, if youv'e nothing better to do! I may even buy you Fish and Chips on Brighton pier as payment[:D].

Pete, Refinished paintwork is never as hard wearing as the original factory paint and after all this time it's very few of our cars that still have factory paint on them. The front ends get repainted by successive owners and it only takes one owner to be an obsessive motorway tailgater to result in a peppered front end, needing another repaint and so the cycle begins again.

By all means get the front end repainted but after that don't ever drive it on the road again or they will just come back :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Paul, does respray paint cure over time?Or is it the lo bake hi bake thing that is different?

Yes, it all cures as long as it's been applied and dried correctly. What I am saying is that even the best refinishing bodyshop in the country, using the best products will still struggle to match the hardness and longevity of paint applied in a multi multi multi million pound factory sprayshop.

I'll hand paint it by brush using Bitumen. That should do the trick [;)]

You wont get stone chips, the stone will just stick to it. Pebble dash stylee - nice [8D]
