Still confused...

Im trying to establish [as im looking to but a 997] if the engine/cylinder etc etc.... failures have generally effected 3.6 or 3.8, and what year car am i safe to buy concerning Porsche possibly improving the engine etc?

Please help

You need to speak to an expert as individual views on here tend to be rather subjective - as you will have seen from your other thread. Why not give Hartech a call and ask them the same question?
My own, subjective view, is that you may be getting the engine failure issue a little out of proportion - but what do I know![;)]
 
Just did a search on Author Bazhart and found a whole list so you can look that up yourself.

In support of Hartech, I bought my first Porsche from them and Baz has more experience than most independents put together.

He sometimes has some write ups of problems he's investigated.
 
Get a car with some warranty, check it's not using too much oil and there are no unusual oily deposits coming from one or other of the exhaust tail pipes, then forget it and enjoy the car.

If you want to be really sure, the only way is to commission an engine leakage test. This could be costly but will set your mind at rest that there's nothing wrong - engine wise anyway.

Re warranty, the way I see it, it's got to be an OPC one as most others won't cover blow up's.... Am I right?
 
Yes, the Porsche approved warranty is said to be bumper to bumper for two years and does cover engine blow ups so they tell me.

Baz Hart did do a thread on the cylinder scoring problems on 996 & 997 the latter having improvements.

Thought of a Cayman S or R ?
 
Wait the 3 months and then you can enter your car into the Porsche warranty after an inspection.
That's another option.
