Stereo Recommendations

Hi all

I may treat my new Turbo to a new stereo, as I don't think the current one has got an MP3 socket, it's quite an old CD player!

If I do, I'd like to go for something that will have hands-free calling capability with my iPhone 4S plus ability to play music direct from this or my iPod.

Any suggestions/experiences to share?

Cheers
Andy

Halfords were offering a nice simple looking sony unit that did all of the above for £169 also alpine do one that I think would look good on a 944 dash. Not to many buttons and no flashing lights etc for around £200.I am putting in an old alpine single cd player from 1992 as I want to keep the interior feeling like it would have back in the day but I will fit a hidden blue tooth for my phone.

New Turbo? I just spotted your thread. Well done. Nice one.

Becker Mexico Pro for me in the s2. I really like it.

Hi Andy

Probably not what your looking for but some years back I was looking for a SAT-NAV for the car, I chose the LG 9600R which has been fantastic. Sat-nav function is the best that I've used and I've tried a few, plays MP3, DVD,CD,etc. Has a USB port which is great for using a storage card with fav music on. Hands free works very well and automatically connects when you get in the car and you can connect other aux too. I have the film Le Mans in the drive which I used to play when stuck somewhere, the sat-nav which covers all of Europe took me to Le Mans with no problems and found and shops that i needed with it's POI, all in all a great unit which if you see one second hand well worth a look for all your needs. Oh and you can also connect up a camera for your rear view if you so wish.

If you were after sound quality i would recommend Nakamichi but i don't think they're models have i pod connection.
I suggest you also upgrade the speakers , if you do go with polk audio ,they sound amazing .

Becker for German quality and subtle look, too much bling and neon looks wrong imo...

I would agree my S2 has a brilliant Kenwood system installed by the previous owner Amp, Ipod connection etc flip front so when the engine is off it looks like a blank but it is very blue and flashy. Looks good but not in my car I would change it for an Alpine unit if I had the money or it broke.

I have a Kenwood mask stereo as well excellent unit but mine has choice of colours for screen and buttons so it matches in well, no iPod or Bluetooth though, mind you hardly ever listen to it these days, if I feel like music I open the window!

Andy

Have I mised a thread??.......

Thanks for all the tips guys. I don't want anything bright with lots of flashing lights and graphics, drives me crackers! This one I like the 'smooth' look of - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_818857_langId_-1_categoryId_165474 - as long as the display is not too flashy.

I do like the idea of the Parrot, the cheaper of the two models I've seen is on clearance price which is good but looking at reviews there's a lot of problems by the sound of things. The other unit they do looks nice but not sure if I'd be paying for a lot of features I wont use like internet? I have internet in my BMW as standard and never use it!

Keep the recommendations coming

Cheers

I would have to say that if I wasn't using my old alpine then I would buy a Nakamichi as they have the best sound quality of any in car system. Also they are vary plain without flashy lights and features you never use. They attract less attention from thevies as well as most of the night crawlers don't know what they are.

Pleased for you mate, very tidy looking car and nice unusual colour too.
Can you resist the trend and keep her standard though???
Enjoy!

Another vote for Becker here. Indianapolis for me. Looks great, sounds good, single din sat nav if you need it.
Grand Prix and Indianapolis Pro add blue tooth connectivity but are all hard to find - won't be new now as Becker don't sell to the UK any more.
There are more traffic pro than anything else on ebay but personally the GP and Ind layout looks better.

Older Blaupunkts have always been good, and have the Germanic heritage too. Here's mine:

Parrots are the dogs apparently mate.  Look cool too [:)]
Yeah. Cockatoos are also apparently the Aardvarks my friend, and feel colder than deep-frozen sausages.

Oli.
