Steering wheels.

If you had the choice of any of the omp steering wheels, to put in your 944, which would you choose and why? Has to be omp and not their carbon one because it's a freebie and I don't want to take the Michael.

James (p.s. need to make a choice by today so be quick, because I can't make my mind up)

Link to their steering wheels if it helps.

Personally none of them

but if i was pushed the targa would do and it may accomodate a club sport wheel front leather pad which would look better.

cheers

I quite like this one but not sure if it would look ok?

It's the VELOCITÀ SUPERLEGGERO I was leaning towards, ile take another look at the wrc and Corsica again now.

Indy Open. Anything less is for wusses. I mean, you could probably get away with the Kubic without too many people laughing at you, but a real man wouldn't choose anything other than the Indy Open.

Good answer! [:)]

Out of curiosity, who is giving you a free steering wheel? Sounds like a nice friend to have ...

Oli.

I helped the sales manager from OMP America out recently with something, he offered to sort me something out from their range.

Well done! Nice when someone returns a favour, eh?

On a serious note, the Corsica Superleggero has holes in the spokes which hark back to some historic Porsche racing wheels. For my money (!) however I'd be looking at the Velocita Superleggero, and trying to find a horn button with the Porsche shield on it to go in the middle.

Also, they all look like they are suede-covered. If so, treat them with some care as the suede can go manky quite quickly; clean it carefully and often if you drive without using gloves. (Having said that, the contact between a suede wheel and some suede-palmed driving gloves is truly heavenly!)

Oli.

ETA: Closer inspection of the piccies shows that they aren't all suede - the Velocita is a non-suede version of the Velocita Superleggera. And, if you aren't wearing gloves all the time, may be a better bet.

Sound, cheers mate, there's an option for the superleggera for leather finish :) with yellow stitch and red marker.

Hmm, that marker would annoy me I think. Is there an option to do away with it altogether? It may (probably would) work on a track-focussed car but not so well on a road-going machine. It's too big and wide and obvious.

Suede is lovely. Soft on the hands and nice to hold. But the rough surface holds dirt and sweat and goes matted and nasty quite quickly. If you drive with gloves, it's fantastic ... (maybe choose the suede option and buy some nice driving gloves. Putting them on would be a faff and people may laugh at you, but it would be well worth it when making progress ... !)

My advice would be to pick the smartest OMP wheel available and have that, rather than agonising over which current OMP wheel best suits a 944.

The wheel which best suits a 944 will be either a Momo Monte Carlo, or a Prototypo, or an OMP which is similar to those models. As you know I have both of those steering wheels and I recently took the Prototypo off and replaced it with an original style Porsche wheel - far better!

Simon

I've just asked for that one, it's smart and I like it, ile get some gloves so I don't wreck it.

Corsica or Velocita for me, both in leather, because the oil from your skin will ruin a suede in very short order. Ive got a suede Monte Carlo, but Id only ever use it gloves.

edited to add: I see that youve made your mind up already
