Steering wheels!

Is there a basic timeline for steering wheel options?
My 1980 turbo has the lozenge shaped wheel, I've previously owned a 1979 928 and it had a three spoke.
I've also seen pictures of later cars with the three spoke wheel.
Wondering if the wheel in mine is correct?

It would have had a 3 spoke, yours looks like an early dash 944 wheel

My MY 87 924S has the same looking wheel-down as the Sport Wheel in the specification

It does seem bit of a lottery as to which steering wheel you get on 924's. I suspect the lozenger wheel is the standard wheel then the 3 spoke (named as sports wheel in the parts listing) was an option. Having said that mine had a 964 lozenger wheel on it when I bought it - made lower down steering wheel issue even worse as it's bigger!!

I've done a bit of digging and it seems in MY81 there were two option codes for steering wheels on the 924;
416=380mm 3-spoke steering wheel
431=363mm 4-spoke H steering wheel

That implies that the 4 spoke being smaller is the Sports item-all I know is my Porsche Certificate of Authenticity states " Sports wheel " which coupled with manual steering & negative camber makes for parking hard work--fine once you'r rolling.

However since I replaced the steering shaft & the offside bottom ball joint ,steering is somewhat lighter
