Steering wheel change

Hi,
I'm in the process of changing the standard Porsche 4 spoke wheel with the rectangular horn button.
Pls can someone advise how you take this wheel off correctly.

The horn pad snaps off somewhat brutally and then you need a 27mm socket and possibly an extension piece to unbolt the hub. Disconnect the horn wire and avoid grounding it otherwise the horn sounds causing excitment, amusement, terror or all three to the family dog.

Any suggestions for a good steering wheel and where to get it and how much.Want to replace my 4 spoke as I find it very uncomfortable compared to the 996 and 997. My good lady's got a nice sports wheel in her S2 and its much nicer.

On p.68 of Sep '05 GT Purely Porsche, there is a picture of a steering wheel that looks a lot like one I used to have on my 964. I bought the car used and it was already on the car, so I don't know much about its origins, but I think it was available from Porsche at some point in time.

It was not necessarily a great looking steering wheel, but it felt fantastic. I think I saw one in a glass display case at JZ Machtech the other day. They were quoting something like £250 or £275 including installation (but plus vat no doubt).

Thanks for that. I will look at it this evening. Im sure a good wheel can be found at a price the only problem is my car is trimmed in Navy leather along with the dashboard as well. I suppose at 22,500 miles and pristine you cant have everything

I only use it as a second car at weekends for outings averaging 3,000 m a year max. £72,000 is a lot of money sitting around so I decided to sell it now whilst the prices were firm on the secondhand market. It was the best Porsche I have ever owned but managed to replace it with something special and in concours condition.
Just cant live without them

Thanks for the links. Think the £240 plus vat club sport with crest is the one for me. Could do with this weeks winning lottery numbers if you have them as well.

I can recommend the club sport, fitted mine last year, looks and feels great, but does slightly obscure the speedometer.......Ops officer couldn't see the 100mph plus coming up []

Just thought you might like to see the replacement for my 997 c2s. Totally original omly 22,600 miles full service history,every bill and MOT. Still got the blaupunct cassette radio in it. All she needs is some colour crest wheel centres
