Steering Shudder 65mph to 80mph

We did a consensus somewhere on discs and it sort of panned out that the cheap pagid discs from Euros were warping and creating shakes and horrors

A lot also depends on how the user uses the car, I can warp a set of any basic cheap plain discs and pads in a hour if abused with lots of 100mph stops, all your stock stuff Pagid, EBC, Brembo, Zimmermann, etc.. is not heat treated. Also some people put higher temp more aggressive pads with these discs and this makes them worst as they can't cope with the increased heat from higher Cof compounds...

See below a Zimmerman Sport Disc which worked fine for road use and even a trackday, but then when subjected to a 2 hour Race with very high temp Racing pads (850 degrees) they cracked up ! literally...

This happened to me, bought pagid front disc and pads from euros 4 years ago lasted 3 months aNd created serious warpage lines that you could actually see very easily and the car shook like mad!

bought the same disc and pads from frazerpart and has been spot on ever Since abd they still look as new, and they were only about £40 extra in total. Something like that

At £87 for the pair it has at least highlighted an issue. I've heard that there is seemingly 2 grades of Pagid. How is this even possible and how do you ensure you get "good" Pagid stuff? My boxes say TMD friction on the hologram seals and that Pagid is a registered trademark of TMD friction. So what exactly is going on?

As far as I am aware euros have the right to use Pagid packaging but the parts aren’t genuine ? Martin may be able to shed some light on this.

frazerpart deffinately sells genuine as I think he was ibe if the ones that told me this and that’s why his is a little deerer

i know a few mangers of euros and motor parts and we used to discuss it years ago but my brain ain’t what it used to be

Thanks Dan. Total nuts that really. Bad crack from Euro. Well I'll see how long these ones last then get some from Max next and see how we go. I did get 4 years out the last ECP ones but goodness knows how long they were contributing to shudder, maybe 4 years!!

Keep your rude ignorant comments to yourself !

The Op has mentioned brake discs, (In regard to vibration issues) you also referred to a brand that you suggested are poor
and distort easily, I've gone one further and illustrated it has a lot to do with how hard or not the car is driven,

I'm very confident that many of the cheaper basic brands in many hands are fine with no issues, but many other people push their car's to higher demands and levels which will have adverse effects on many components.

I've also illustrated that what may be fine on the road is one thing, on a trackday another and then the ultimate test of a car's ability
(Circuit Racing) goes up many more notches.

So if you read the post first, understood it is relevant (all be it a much harder application) you might give yourself a break and others that read these posts and stop being so personally obsructive.

Thanks. Should have said I need M030 discs which makes £87 for a pair ridiculously cheap. Looking at my old invoice from 4 years ago it says Sebro. But they were definitely in Pagid boxes.

So are the Sebro discs from Euro genuine or is that all a stitch up too? Going by what I paid for the "Pagids" I reckon I could get change out of £100 for a pair of Sebro discs from ECP.

Well ive has experience with these sebro from euros too, not that long ago my car was with John Mitchell for some tuning ect and I had just bought a set of these and I asked John if he wouldn’t mind changing them as he was already doing my brake caliber slide plates and goodrige brake hoses, and he called me back and said that they wasn’t anygood and it’s best I send them back and get a genuine set which is what I did. He could tell by looking at them.

for piece of mind now I will always give max at frazerpart my business if he has what I need even if I do pay a tiny bit more than others, as I trust his parts are genuine and his service is second to none, I praise his delivery service highly.

Thats where id get my parts from including pads. He knows his stuff about the right combination of pad and disc compounds to brake well and last and mine is proving just that. Pagid disc and pads feel great and never tons of brake dust like all the other expensive race street pads you can buy I’ve tried 80% of them no matter the price over the years on my non turbo I tried them all and the best so far all round are his Pagids

chat to him about the right set and you’ll see what I mean ??

If you can manage to put the same abuse though a set of brakes on a road as on a track, you should have your license taken away

You always have to have the last word and you always have to be right,

You need to get a life and I was not rude I pointed out that your comments were based on racing not road use and therefore pointless, if you wish to call me ignorant you can pm me for a time and place to explain yourself in person

You attitude on this and every other forum stinks
What gives you the right to insult me with out even knowing me,

It does seem to be a common problem these days with so many pattern parts, you often don't really know what your getting !

Don't let him get to you would be my advice, I value your input and would be sorry to see you go - just skip his ramblings!

Back on the original subject, if the vibration only occurs whilst driving and you cant feel it / it improves while braking then I suspect it might not be brake disc related. My 944na used to do it and it was a worn front shock which offered very little resistance to compression, shockingly so when removed as the car didn't drive badly. A small bump was enough to trigger an oscillation and it was bad around the 50-80mph speed range. Other than that the bent wheel is a likely suspect but strange there is a lack of consistency.
Tony

Funnily enough my OS front shocker is knackered. I'm shortly going to be removing both fronts and sending then to GAZ for a rebuild. Got an advisory on it last MOT and upon inspection for impending MOT saw oil all over it. So its definitely not performing as it should. That might be the final piece of the jigsaw then. Cheers Tony.

Also don't go Martin. Your a top guy who's input is always helpful and welcome. Get skimming my friend!

Edit to add: it was worse on bumpy surfaces so makes perfect sense.

Stuart

So the car is all back together. Rebuilt struts, new ball joint and other bits and pieces. Full geo done today and there is still a remnant of wobble in the same speed range. It has to be tyres or more likely the front rim with the dink on it. The dink is on the outside lip, its maybe about an inch and a half long and in the middle of must be about 3mm out of shape. It is bent but not broken and the wheel does balance ok, but understand that doesn't guarantee anything. So when the Toyo's need replaced I'll change brand, but think this wheel is the issue. Therefore I need one single front CS rim (yes I will need to be really lucky to get a single unbent rim) or does anyone know if this can be sorted on a CS rim?

Cheers, Stuart

There is quite a few places that can get that back in shape, unless it's magnesium?
The other option is to borrow some wheels, just fronts, and see if that really is your problem

Thanks Martin. Yes must borrow a front pair of anything that fits for a fact find. I dont think the CS wheels are magnesium, forged certainly. Turbo Cup had magnesium wheels I think.
