Starting problem...

Hello. My 944 is not starting... Car is not daily driving, from time what I bought is in the garage (like my project). Sometime I started engine and was without problem. Only one time happed not started - battery low... I used charger and started without problem. Until now. I did try start today and car did not. I connect my other car with starting cables, but did not help. I have no idea, what happend. Where can be problem? Where to start checking? Many thanks.

Obvious place to start is the DME relay, around £20 so worth changing unless you know it's new. Check all the ignition parts, as they can run for years with no signs other than rough running or poor starting. Fuel system is possible, but I'd check electrics first. Also look at any alarm or immobilisers that are fitted.
 
There is any Cheetah alarm - probably not original. DME relay is not new. Last friday started without problem. Today I did any small job around car, just removed wings, front panel and all front lamps.... Many thanks for help.

as you have flat battery issues I suspect that your car will not start due to your engine not turning over fast enough.

The ECU has to see at least 225rpm when cranking before it will ground your DME relay and start the fuel pump.This is a safety feature to prevent fuel catching fire if the car is in an accident.

Suggest you either get a fully charged or new battery or jump start from another car's battery .

If it still will not start? check that you have a spark and fuel on the spark plugs . If not then try a 3x way bypass in place of the DME relay (instructions on Clarkes Garage website or do a search on this forum)


 
No point in testing the DME relay as they are only about £19 brand new from an OPC.

Do Lux's have reference sensors? If the reference sensor is faulty then the ignition circuit will not be energised. As Peanut has said, if the engine is not cranking over quickly enough then it won't start and the reference sensor is the sensor that determines this on a Turbo's Motronic system at least. I'm sure the Lux will have something similar.

When my sensor was playing up it would start intermittently. Sometimes it would start with no problems at all as normal, then other times it would not start at all no matter how long I cranked it. It turned out in my case that the sensor had come loose and all was required was me having to bolt it down properly.
 
Hello. I did order new relay from eBay (and to fit today). And car is starting without problem :) Many thanks for help.
