Starter Motor Needed

Hi Guys

Further to rebuild thread, the starter we thought was available isn't. Solenoid seems to be away on mine.

Does anybody have a decent starter lying about they could sell?

Bit confused looking at PET. There are 2 starters, both 951 part numbers listed. One is 1.4KW and other is 1.7KW listed as M198. What is M198?

Does any 944 starter do the job?

Cheers

Stuart

You daft sausage. Why didn’t you call me this morning?

Not only do I have a spare starter motor in the garage but I’m now sat in a hotel room 20 mins from your house!!!!!!!

That’s it, another one to lay at Murphy’s door,

snd if you were a bit closer I probably could have fixed yours, I have bearings and brushes in stock here somewhere

Thanks guys. I have taken a plunge on a reconditioned Bosch 1.7KW unit from a German company. £93 plus £13 delivery, send my old one back once it's off. Seems very reasonable, return post included.

Cheers

Stuart

mine failed around 6 years back so i took the one off my 86 non turbo 944 and it is slightly beefier and heavier but spins up way stronger/faster

Just a passing comment from me, when we rebuilt my car and fitted a new starter my son ran extra cables to beef up the supply. The starter spins nicely... can't remember if it was just an extra earth lead or also the positive too?

I would think the power cable rather than the earth, as the battery cable corrodes between all the strands and the resistance goes through the roof

it’s a expensive bit of wire, 35mm square about £15 a metre plus fittings
