Starter alternator harness

Active member
Well after reading some stories of 968’s that have been left in gear taking themselves for a drive, I decided to take a look at my alternator harness,
not good, the insulation is breaking up and it wont be long before the solenoid wire shorts on the main battery cable and the car will be off for a drive,

the thin blue is the exciter for the alternator, the red Is the Solenoid Activation wire, if the red shorts to the battery cable you will be off if left in gear.

only solution as the harness is NLA is to make a new one,

Almost Made,
this is going to happen to 944's too

first prototype made, taken me ages as I managed to screw my back up some how, New plugs on the way from the USA, Main cable uprated to 120amps, solenoid cable uprated to 33amps, all wiring temp safe to 120 Degrees C, braid cover up to 150 Degrees C, for a mates Turbo I have got some 500 Degree coverings

Here's what happens when you leave the car in gear and the insulation finally fails

Car made a bid for freedom

Must have been a garage queen "I want to break free”

so here we are with the new ones I can Make

Left Open Braid 120-150°C, Right Silicone Coated Glass fibre Rated to 500°C

the Kit

changed mine today, it was a disaster waiting to happen

Pictures, this is my cable off my car........................................

the black bits are pieces of the old hardened and degraded insulation, just shake the cable and it all starts falling out

Definitely on the double-check list in the next week or so.. Will on handbrake only in the meantime :)
If anyone wants a new harness before your 968 or 944 goes up in flames or burns the starter out. get in touch
