Spotted Today Nice 944 Turbo SE For Sale

Hi Folks

Although as some of you known I recently sold my 944 I am always still keeping my eye's peeled for nice 44 Turbo's,
as after 6 years they are still one of my all time fav cars.

I was driving past a well know garage that used to service my car and thought I would pop in and say hello for a coffee.
Always good to see what shiny stuff they are working on and that I cannot afford!!

Then I caught sight of a very nice black 944 Turbo in the car park. It turns out the car is for sale, so I thought I would pop
a post on here, as if someone is looking for an unmolested Turbo, this could be a real beauty. I am afraid I do not have any
contact details of the guy selling it, as it was just in for a checkover to see what needs doing to the car prior to sale.
If anyone was seriously interested I could get hold of his contact details for you.

Anyway here are some details here:

Porsche 944 Turbo SE 1990
1 Owner from new...
Black with Black dash top and rest is cream, cream carpets.
Sports Seats with 2 way electrics (drivers seat bolster does need repairing).
97,000
M030 Suspension
LSD
10 Speaker Pack and original Panasonic Stereo
Forged Club Sport 16" Wheels (need refurbing)

I took the car out for a drive and it drives beautifully. Boost comes on song as expected, there was no whine from the rear at all.
The gearbox was super smooth, probably the slickest 944 change I have driven (driven around 15 different 44's). Really was a super smooth ride.
The clock works!!! The glovebox hinges are all stil intact and the windows went up and down swiftly, very uncommon with these.
Very few creaks or groans from the inside apart from the usual hatch pins not holding correctly.
The sills were very solid as are the wing bottoms, there was "slight" corrosion so I would have the bottoms of the wings and sills re done
to be safe and the drivers top door hinge needs painting and new hinge pins. Other than a stone chip on the badge panel it would polish up beautifully.
It was very dusty both on the outside and under the bonnet. It has been sat in a heated garage for over 3 years and never driven!!!

The guy is going to MOT it and put road tax on it, but all the other little niggly bits would need attending to.
Of course it will need the cambelts doing straight away, but all the other bits were things like bonnet gas shocks not holding bonnet up,
needs new windscreen wipers, few bulbs blown here and there. Maybe front brake discs and pads, although I thought they felt fine and definitely
stopped the car quickly and in a straight line. I am sure there are bits I have missed, but if you want any other info please drop me a line and I will get the guys details.
I have no connection at all with the sale, its just rare to find a one owner car that could look stunning and if I was now in the position of trying to find on
I would probably bite the guys hand off.

I reckon he is looking for around £5,000, what do you guys think? Probably needs £1,500 to £2,500 spending on it, but it would then be absolutely mint.

Cheers

Lee

For £5k it is an absolute steal. I wish I was able to take the plunge again - I so miss my 944T. I had always vowed if I were to go back to a turbo i'd pull the funds together in advance and buy the car and immediately install the mods I'd always wanted to which would probably amount to about £5k's worth of mods, but at the moment the prospect of having a nice standard car is very tempting. Unfortunately there is no chance at the moment for me to pull together the necessary spondoolies - the wife is still on maternity leave until July then she wants to re-decorate the whole house and sort the garden out, she's just had her eye's zapped. There is just no more left for fun!

Nice too: if its as good as it appears. I have to wonder about the Pasha fabric though, because it was all worn out 10-15yrs ago, when I was really involved with the cars, so Id be concerned that it was brittle and about to spoil now...

5k with all that work needing doing , and we all know nothing is ever done cheep on a Porsche. I personally wouldnt call it a bargain at all. Surely you can buy a car with the belts and wings etc done for 7 or less ?.
There arent many 944 turbos genuinely selling( not asking) more than 7,000 , even enthusiast owned goodens that would have done easily a few years ago.

Hi Mas

Having driven the car I think it is still a bargain, although I do not know how much the guy wants for it (having never met him!!!),
it was a ball park figure to see if anyone was interested. The wings are ROCK solid just "slight" surface
rust and I mean a tiny amount, I am just picky and anyone who knows my old car will know how fastiduos I was.

Even if it needed £2,000 (which it probably does'nt) spending on it, it would be one super clean example.

There are plenty of cars in the 3k to 4k that could swallow 5k if you wanted them nice.

Without seeing it is is difficult to judge [;)] Mas

Having seen it and driven it I was merely letting the guys here who may be looking for a Turbo, know about a very straight example
that seems extremely honist and had not been polished to death to cover up uglies that lay beneath.

I wasnt trying to be argumentative , I just saw your words above and wasnt too keen on that for a figure . I'm sure as you say any purchaser can now go and look at it and make up his own mind , at least having spotted it you have given them the chance to go and find out for themselves [;)]

Hey no worries Mas like you said it at least gives someone the chance to buy a really solid example and make it into an excellent example.

It's a shame when the good cars get into the wrong hands for relatively little money, which is why when I spotted it yesterday I thought I would post here. I am not sure where the seller will advertise it, but bettter to go to an enthusiast here, than to somebody thinking they can buy a car like that cheap and then run it on a shoe string. We know what happens then, they quickly deteriate and fall apart[:D][:D][:D]

It may be had for 4k, I just threw a figure in the air[8D]

I just hope this one makes it to an enthusiastic owner

If only I had a double garage!!!! Mind you if i did I would still have my old Turbo [][][]

All the best

Lee

Why would this have to be in Wirral! I wouldn't mind taking a look at it myself but I'm no longer living in Liverpool and it's a 3hour drive minimum from here. (In fact I emailed you but it probably got spammed because of my name and I thought ohh I should leave it)

Hi DivineE

It is in Liverpool at said garage at the mo, althoguh not sure where the guy lives that owns it, although I am guessing
it must be somewhere close by.

Well if you can get a number or give him mine from your junk email box. I will at least just give him a call. See if it's worth doing the miles and risking bumping into the ex for[;)]

Hi Lee

Nice write up I would be more than interested I've sent a PM.
.
Car sounds in pretty good nick, infact probably better than the last one I brought back from the dead and up to spec.

My old car is for sale again - Rob was looking for around £7k I believe.

That car has already had the lower wings and sills done plus belts, etc, so easily worth the £2k over the black one.

Black car definitely has great potential at the right price[;)]

I went to see your old car. Drives beautifully, well done for maintaining the important bits:) There's are not very many 944's that drive like they should anymore.

p.s. Lee passed my number to this guy a while back and he hasn't contacted me? Never know he might have decided to keep it once the garage told him its value. If he's had it 25years he must like the car.

Hi Ben

I believe the guy is picking the car up tomorrow, tuesday 25th and will then have your number in his paws.

I have asked said garage to give contacts in order of who contacted me first.
There have been several people contact me, but you were first in the queue [;)].

Let me know when you hear anything.

Cheers

Hi Guys

I popped into the garage today and the bloke with the black Turbo you have all asked about here,
has still not picked it up. I think all the names of people who asked me re this car are sat on his passenger seat
for him on a bit of paper!!!

Only needed the headlamp aim adjusting for its MOT last week [:)]

Just thought I would let you all know that I had not lost all your numbers, just the guy has not collected his car along
with all your contact details.

Cheers have a good bank holiday weekend

Lee

Having heard nothing back I'd assumed this car was no longer an option and I've been pursuing another car. Still I shall wait for the call because nothing is secured yet and you never know what might go wrong until the money has exchanged hands and the documents have been signed. Hopefully I will know the outcome of the car I'm chasing before this chap contacts me otherwise I will have to let it go and cry later if the other car doesn't work out![] This could potentially have been a car in my favourite colour with better interior, a third as many owners and half the mileage for the same price!

Still the fates have a funny way of deciding these things and whatever will be will be.
