Sporto gearbox dead !!

Just got home after 3 hours at the side of the road - all my own fault I might add. Hopefully someone (bones probably!!) can help pin point what I might have busted. Here's what happened:

I was accellerating at a brisk pace in 2nd (D) at about 70 - 80mph I went to shift into 3rd (D2) and pushed straight into 1st(L). It's not difficult to do and have nearly done it once or twice before. The sporto box just accepted the change and you can imagine what the car did. Almighty rev off the clock and me frantically trying to pull the car out of 1st(L). When I did the car made a bang, I thought I'd blown the engine but that was fine. A coasted to the side, engine still running, but couldn't select any gears. Trying to select 1st(L) makes a horrible grinding noise and does not engage, 2nd(D) and 3rd(D2) just don't even attempt to go. Reverse also grinds like 1st(L).

I was eventually picked up by a tow truck and brought home. I just asked for a pickup truck and told AA not to even bother to send someone to try and fix it (you can imagine the fun I had trying to tell them it was a sportomatic - that's fun in a bad way!!)

Anyway - what have I done? The engine sounds, runs and starts just fine, same pressure as before.

Please help :(

Can't offer much help on the technical side, but here's a big wedge of sympathy! What a bu***r! Hope things don't prove to be too painful on the wallet...
 
Evil; sounds like an expert is needed. Could be a problem with a sportomatic. I bet time spent finding someone with genuine previous experince of these boxes would be well spent.
 
I found this on pelican > Sporto Prob Like Mine < and I think I will pass it onto the garage. They told me not to worry as they've fixed 100's before but you can never have enough info imo.

Anyway I reckon it's the micro-switch
 
OK quick update:

Fuse box was crumbling away - was probably destined to stop sometime due to that anyway. Microswitch was also defective. Parts on order. The system was bypassed and apparently all was ok with gear selection on testing.

Also getting heating sorted, new door speakers, check oil level (too high I think) and I've got a Momo prototipo to put in too [:D]

So I'm a bit happier now - car back Friday or Saturday hopefully.

As for Addspeed (Horsham, West Sussex) they seem very busy. Have many customer 911's and 944 all over the place. The main guy (Keith) is friendly and informative. They seem like a decent outfit. Lets see how much all the above costs on Friday.
 
That's good news, it should be about 1 hrs labour to fit the contacts plus parts, they are a straight fit and don't need adjusting. The fuse holder should be little work too unless the wiring has fried or similar.
The heating could be a reasonable cost job too if the HEs are ok
