Speedster ride height query?

Hi Fellow Speedster' ites' (?!),

Just a quick request for some help, please.

I' ve been informed at my last service by JZMachTech (excellant outfit!), that my Speedster seems to have been lowered slightly more then the normal ride height.

I always felt the ride was quite firm, this may be the reason why....

Please could I ask other 964 Speedster owners (and earlier Speedsters owners too), to just measure the height of the center of each wheel arch from the ground for each wheel...(approx measure will be fine to the nearest cm.)

One can then figure out if I do have a problem and if there is a way to adjust the ride height (hope so) or if I need to get new springs (hope not!).

A bit of an unsual request I know, but please rest assured, it might save my marriage!!

My wife refuses to be a passenger anymore and won' t let me take my baby daughter (of 11 months) as a passenger, as she thinks the suspension is just too firm and the ride too uncomfortable and I am getting very bored always driving on my own all the time...!

Can I suggest a note of the following and height in cms if possible (just to allow easier comparison I guess...)

i.e.
Speedster Model - 911/964
Tyre size - 15/16/17 (or even 18 inch!!!)
Front Left -
Front Right -
Rear Left -
Rear Right -

I' ll measure mine tomorrow and provide this info too. (will have to pinch the tape measure from the sewing box....)

Thanks in advance!

[:)]Sandeep ... You say JZ are a good outfit so I guess if they have told you your ride height is lower than standard set up then they must surely be correct!

Give PCGB Technical a call and they should easily be able to confirm I am sure your ride height is different to an 89 Speedsters anyway.

Have you ever driven an 89 Speedster because I can' t imagine your C2 based car being anywhere near as harsh, crashy and unforgiving as the ealier cars

Regards ...Robert

Sandeep,

Robert is right when he says that the ride height of the 94 cars is unlikely to bear any relation to the 89 cars. However I have 16 inch fuchs, the front height is 65.5 cm and the rear is 63cm.

Might be worth copying this post to the 964 forum.

Looking at photos of your car I have always thought it looked low and assumed this was part of the updates you had carried out.

As regard your family, I remember seeing an advert for the Boxster when I was in the States claiming the more children you had the more practical the car was. [:D]

I will be lobbying for a separate 964RS forum, declined at the moment.

Do we need one? What do you think guys?

This from a query recently raised on ' titanic' . measured from centre of wheel to underside of wheel arch.

My Cup Car:
Rear -318mm
Front -325mm

Lowered 964 C4 (now +10mm)

310 and 318 (320 and 328)

PLEASE NOTE
This is from Porsche Tech Spec Book. Height Adjustment from wheel contact area to outer hex headbolt of crossmember mount on body =125mm +-5mm max difference left/right 5mm Height adjustment rear from wheel contact area to measurement surface on control arm 223mm +-5mm or 235mm+-5mm from wheel contact area to measurement surface on control arm mount. So Floor to wheel arch won' t be too accurate!

Work that one out!!

Ever thought you had possible shocker failure??

Rgds

Hi Mel,

Thanks for the suggestion to check the shocks. I' ll certainly look into (I suspect if there is a problem it' s the rear shocks...)

Finally got a chance to get some measures (but will compare these in the right way with the ones from the tech spec in your post, Mel - when I' ve figured out how!)

Speedster Model - 964
Tyre size - 17
Front Left - 63 cm
Front Right - 63 cm
Rear Left - 62 cm
Rear Right - 62 cm

Compared to Chris measurements (with tyre size and profile acounting for the 16 rims on Chris' car..) My speedster is indeed lower!

Is there some sort of plate on the rear springs that can be turned to allow the springs to compress or de-compress and in turn adjust the car height on a 964?

I will probably get the shocks changed too if they are worn out....
Thanks in advance for any more info.

:-}

Sandeep -you may also benefit in ride comfort by lowering the tyre pressures to 36psi all around, instead of the book pressures, if that is what you are running.

Thanks Mel good suggestion, I' ll try that too.

I guess dodgy potholed London roads don' t help either!
