Speedometer display seems dim in daylight

My LCD speedometer display in the rev counter seems a little dim in daylight, even though I have adjusted the brightness all the way up. I see that the 986 uses a bulb for the backlight. Does anyone know if the backlight for the 987.1 Cayman S is also a bulb, or whether I might have an earthing issue?

I can’t say for certain, but being an LCD I doubt that it’s backlit. Fading LCDs are a common problem with instrument clusters in general, and you may be able to find a repairer online.

The reason I say that it’s backlit is because the brightness is adjusted by a rheostat.

I have read elsewhere that it could be a malfunctioning control unit, as symptoms include dimming in hot and sunny conditions.

In my case it’s only the speed readout, the odometer, trip, clock and outside temperature appear brighter. I shall investigate further!
