Specialist Cars of Malton Latest News

What a shame PorscheGB failed to engage with me nearly a year ago when I approached the administrators of this site with a view to obtaining permission to tell my sorry story of my dealings with SCOM. I suspect that tens of thousands of euro of members money might not have been lost to them if an open and honest review had been published back then.

Yes i had read about your offer on 911 UK. What a shame it seems to have got the cold shoulder here.

I trust the administrators will come along and explain why the club have actually known of this matter for a long time but were unable to help our members.

Well there is no reasoning with some people, even when the correct answer is pretty obvious......and yes I do have legal training lol

Other sites seem to have had different legal advice to PCGB mmmmmmm ie they vet the posts and require evidence to support the claim ....then remarkably allow them to protect theit members......how enlightening ..........and PCGB does employ full time staff who should have the time to review ...... or maybe not

Not sure if this is allowed, but Yorkshire Classic Porsche also seems to be having issues. To protect PCGB from any legal comeback all I will say is I WOULD SUGGEST YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND THOROUGHLY CHECK THIS COMPANY OUT ONLINE BEFORE CONSIDERING ANY TRANSACTION WITH THIS COMPANY WHETHER IT BE BUYING, SELLING OR SOR.

All I can say to anyone who wants to know the truth about you know what ...PM me. And pour a stiff drink. Or is that libelous?

Not at all on this Forum ...... but what information you say about any company when you send on to anyone else maybe.

Thats your choice.

So, after all the praisning of PH and their relaxed manner, it turms out that there rules are similar to our own in protecting themselves against litigation.

The following has recently been put posted on their forum:

Hi everyone, Recently there has been a lot of speculation around SCOM on the forums, which is both unfair and defamatory. We wish to put a stop to this immediately; Here are the facts as can be independently confirmed from public information: - SCOM are late in filing their accounts: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/0374523... - Administrators were appointed 21 February 2020: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/3504774 No other discussion on the forums will be entertained, including but not limited to personal experiences, hearsay or accusations against the company or it's owners. Threads on the subject will be removed in accordance with the Posting Rules. Members continuing to try and flout or circumvent the rules may be temporarily or permanently banned from participating in the forums.

Peter , you could equally have come and praised 911 UK and others for having the courage to make a stand. Well done for finding that Pistonheads have backed away but they are not a Porsche site. And what about the other recent posters Fdub & Jontt - any reply to them ?

I am curious who Fdub actually contacted within the Club. Certainly not Forum admin so, presumably, HQ? With respect, what happens on other sites is of little importance and we need to protect your £70 per annum from ending up being spent in legal fees defending a libel case and possible damages. The Club, unlike PH or 911uk, is a bigger and easier target.

We try to run the forum with the absolute minimum of intervention but need to keep the above in mind. In fact, having looked through the log, in the last calendar month only 7 posts have needed any action and 5 of those were put up by spammers.

It may be time to draw a line under this particular debate as I think we have made the Club's position clear and the company in question is no longer trading.

Well, just to confirm my position, I am very grateful that the position taken by the moderators on 911UK is seeking to protect the members of their community.

It seems that they have the ability to understand that it is entirely reasonable to report some clearly illegal actions by some very unscrupulous car dealers.

I don't see why others can't do the same. The emphasis is on the legal definition of reasonable.

I feel very sorry for any of the Porsche owners who may have unwittingly ended up losing a small fortune that could have been avoided with a suitably worded warning from PCGB being published to the membership.

I am sad that it seems there is no point in chasing this any further.

Has anyone who feels that PCGB has not acted in the best interests of it's members actually spoken to a) the GM or b) a Director?

As mentioned previously, that is where Club policy is decided.

I see where the moderators are coming from but it means bad news gets buried by the lawyers. Here's a suggestion;

In cases where there are concerns or bad experiences , why don't we all play safe and say something like;

Re; Anycompany ***LTD

" if anyone wants a chat about them, I have experience of their service, feel free to PM me. "

That way it is the member who makes the comments privately and the forum cant be sued. BUT that member can warn others about any potential pitfalls. By God I wish I had been forewarned last year.

PH have very similar rules to PCGB on naming and shaming, so this is very typical of them and I wouldn't agree that they have a relaxed manner about this sort of thing. I don't recall much praise for them on these matters. Posts are often removed/topics closed very quickly. 911uk on the other hand take a very different view, thankfully for some owners who may have been considering using certain traders.

I feel that unfortunately there would be limited merit in the likes of this. Only those who know the "secret handshake" would benefit. The likes of that is no good to the potential buyer who isn't yet a member of the club and is contemplating a purchase and doing their research on-line.

I have read through this thread several times and we seem to be going around in circles.

The forum rules are the forum rules. They have stood us in good stead for 10+ years and I can see no chance of them changing in respect of "Naming and Shaming" for all the reasons previously noted.

I really see no further point in continuing this discussion further and will shut the thread.

Thank you all who have contributed. I appreciate your enthusiasm, and passion, and hope any who have been wronged by any Company will find resolution through the appropriate channels.
