Sparks and leads

I will be replacing these in a short while, assuming that I am trying to source every horse I can from my S2 is there any point in getting 'aftermarket/upgraded' spark plugs and thicker leads or shall I just stay with new OE Bosch?

Different forums and chat rooms have all kinds of stories of the impressive effect of Denso iridiums etc but I would like to hear from one of our population who have some actual experience of this.
 
I'd stay OEM, I have heard of and seen (on another of my cars) the Iridium plugs crack or break up.
That was ok on a steel linered engine but the chance of one doing it on a 944 is not one I'd take.
Mine cracked the ceramic in 3k on a standard road car.

Recently replaced mine with OEM, plugs, leads, dizzy cap & rotor arm, can't really see the point in anything else for my needs.
Got mine from Promax.

Thanks Andy - got it back last week from RPM and it feels like they rebuilt the engine the change is so noticeable! I popped over to Promax the other day and am now running one of their chips so am definitely enjoying having it back - if only it would stop raining so I could chuck it around a bit!
 
As the car is standard OEM will be fine although a set of Magnecor leads would certainly give you a better spark, meaning perhaps an extra horse or two and smoother running. Iriduim plugs is a difficult decision and being one who had a plug crack I guess I should be more wary than most. The thing is when you modify a car especially a turbo you need that better spark and more importantly a colder plug. despite my past bad experience with Iriduim I'll probably still have to use them although I'll change them far more often, I think NGK's are the safest today but will research this again before I'm ready for them.

I have iridium plugs (Denso) and rave about them, definitely make a noticeable difference and therefore worthwhile the extra pence. No issues here with cracked ceramics and yours being an S2 I doubt you will have any either. The iridiums seem to do better on large capacity engines like our 3lt 4 pots where good detonation can be beneficial in large cylinders. Ive seen a large capacity twin bike engine dyno'd before and after fitting the iridium, produced 92bhp on standard plugs and 95bhp on the iridiums, not bad for a set of 2 plugs.

Re the leads, replace if worn, otherwise I would be more concerned about the rotor and dizy cap are in good order?
